Williams leads Namibian recovery

A great unbeaten century by Craig Williams enabled Namibia to reach 264 all out when bad light stopped play on the first day of their CSA Three-Day Challenge against Gauteng on Thursday.

Williams reached his century off only 115 balls, which included 15 fours and one six, to rescue Namibia’s innings after a poor start.

Gauteng won the toss and sent Namibia in to bat and the visitors were soon in trouble, as Ian Opperman was dismissed for six with the total on 14.

Women’s cricket team set for T20 World Cup Qualifier

Namibia’s national women’s cricket team will compete in the ICC-Africa Women’s T20 Tournament in Tanzania from December 16 to 19.
 
They will compete against South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, with the top two teams qualifying for the 2014 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup which will take place in Bangladesh.

At a capping ceremony in Windhoek on Wednesday, the CEO of Cricket Namibia Graham MacMillan wished the team well and encouraged the players to make use of their chances.

Namibia 4th after Northerns defeat

Namibia remained fourth on the log after suffering a narrow three-run defeat against Northerns in their Cricket South Africa (CSA) One-Day match in Pretoria on Sunday.

In a thrilling finish to the match, Namibia needed 13 runs from the final over to win the match, but although they made a gallant effort, they ended up four runs short of the winning target.

Namibia are now fourth out of seven teams on the Inland Pool log with nine points from four matches.

North West lead the log with 21 points, followed by Free State on 18 and Gauteng on nine points.

Northerns beat Namibia by 3 runs

Northerns beat Namibia by three runs in their Cricket South Africa One Day match in Pretoria on Sunday.

In a thrilling finish to the match, Namibia needed 13 runs from the final over to win the match, but although they made a gallant effort, they ended up four runs short of the target.

Namibia won the toss and sent Northerns in to bat, as the hosts got off to a fine start.

All their top order batsmen got amongst the runs as they reached a total of 203/6 off their 40 overs.

After Northerns declared their first innings at 409/7, Namibia reached 259/7 at stumps on the second day of their three-day challenge match at Centurion Park.

Namibian captain Raymond van Schoor was not out on 99 while Brandon Viret was not out on 20.

Resuming the day at 282/4, Graeme van Buuren only added two runs to his overnight score of 140 before he was trapped LBW by Christi Viljoen.

JJ Pienaar (45) and Shaun van Berg (60 not out) however continued to pile on the runs as Northerns eventually declared at 409/7.

Northerns took command of their three-day CSA cricket match against Namibia as they reached 282 for the loss of only four wickets when bad light stopped play on Thursday.

Playing at Centurion Park in Pretoria, Northerns won the toss and elected to bat.

Namibia made an early breakthrough when Louis Klazinga had Lerato Kgoatle caught behind by Raymond van Schoor for a duck off only the fifth ball of the innings.

Namibia kept up the pressure and when Van Schoor also caught Shershan Naidoo off Brandon Viret’s bowling for 5, Northerns had crashed to two wickets down for five runs.

Namibia looking to improve against Northerns

Namibia will be hoping for a better performance in the Cricket South Africa provincial league when they take on Northerns at Centurion Park in Pretoria from Thursday, November 22.

Last weekend Namibia were in a strong position to win both their three-day and one-day match against Free State in Bloemfontein, but they let Free State off the hook and ended up losing both matches.

A batting collapse saw Namibia crashing to a 43-run defeat against Free State in their Cricket South Africa One-Day match in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Namibia’s bowlers did well to dismiss Free State for 188 runs, but Namibia’s batsmen could not deliver the goods as they were all out for 145 runs off only 38,3 overs.

Namibia however once again let Free State off the hook after having them struggling at 84/7, but they could not finish off the tail.

Free State took command of the three-day Challenge match against Namibia on Friday, as they reached 65/2 at stumps for an overall lead of 156 runs with eight second innings wickets in hand.

After scoring 238 in their first innings, Free State dismissed Namibia for a paltry 147 to take a 91-run lead on the first innings.

Namibia’s innings started on a disastrous note as Pikkie Ya France was run out for a duck off the third ball of the innings and from then on Namibia were always on the back foot.

Honours even between Free State and Namibia

The honours were quite even at the end of the first day of the CSA 3-Day match between Free State and Namibia in Bloemfontein on Thursday.

Sent in to bat, Free State were all out for 238, while Namibia reached 4/1 at stumps on day one.

pace bowler Louis Klazinga gave Namibia the perfect start when he dismissed Lefa Mosena for four and Rudi Second for a duck in the first over of the match.

When Klazinga dismissed Jay van Dyk for four, Free State were in deep trouble with three wickets down with the total on 11.
