Namibia win U17 regional African title

Namibia’s national U17 cricket team won the ICC Africa Central and Southern Region U17 tournament in Benoni, South Africa on September 1, after beating Zambia in the final.
In a closely contested final, Namibia prevailed to win the match by only 14 runs.
Namibia were all out for 159 runs with Andrew Forrest top scoring with 50 runs.
Zambia were then dismissed for 145 runs, with Wian van Vuuren taking 4/30 which also won him the man of the match award.

Earlier, Namibia comfortably won all its group matches.

Rain stops play prematurely

Namibia’s ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Bermuda was prematurely halted on Thursday when rain stopped play at tea time and no further play was possible for the rest of the day.
At teatime, Bermuda had reached 91/1 in their first innings in reply to Namibia’s first innings total of 320 all out.

Namibia reached a total of 280 for nine wickets at the end of the first days play of their ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Bermuda in Hamilton on Wednesday.
Sarel Burger, who top scored for Namibia with a patient 71 off 225 balls and Louis Klazinga on 8 were still at the crease when play was stopped after 97 overs at the National Stadium in Hamilton.

Namibia can take a decisive step towards its first ICC Intercontinental Cup 2007-08 final this week if it beats bottom-of-the-table Bermuda in Hamilton.

Louis Burger leads a strong Namibian side that is not short on confidence having already amassed five wins out of five in the competition so far. Some teams have found it difficult to bring a first-choice squad on the road in this competition but Namibia’s selectors had a full complement to choose from, brimming with potential match winners.

Young cricketers beat Botswana

Namibia’s national Under 13 cricket team has been in excellent form during a tour to Botswana, and are still unbeaten after four matches.

In their first match on Monday, Namibia beat Botswana by 51 runs.
Namibia batted first and reached a total of 178 for five wickets in their allotted 30 overs.
Namibia’s best batsmen were Brendon du Plessis with 48 runs and JJ Smit with 52.
Botswana were then all out for 127 runs, with Michau du Preez taking three wickets for 30 runs.

Namibian squad for Bermuda

A squad of 14 players has been selected to represent Namibia in an ICC Intercontinental Cup match away to Bermuda from September 3 to 6.

It’s a well-balanced team that includes experienced campaigners like Deon Kotze, Louis Burger and Bjorn Kotze, while several exciting youngsters have also been called up. They include opening batsman Raymond van Schoor, all rounder LP van der Westhuizen and spin bowler Bernard Scholtz.
Scholtz’ elder brother and leg spin bowler, Nicolaas Scholtz, is also in the squad.

Kenya replace Namibia at top of ICC log

Kenya replaced Namibia at the top of the ICC Intercontinental Cup table after thrashing the Netherlands by an innings within two days in Amstelveen.
Kenya now top the log with 96 points from six matches, followed by Namibia on 82 points from five matches and Scotland on 82 points from seven matches. Ireland are lying fourth on 72 points from five matches.

MTC disappointed by rugbyâ??s lack of respect

Snyman wins Player of the Year award

Gerrie Snyman capped a great season by winning the MTC Player of the Year award at Cricket Namibiaâ??s annual prize-giving ceremony on Saturday night.

Snyman entered the record books with some great innings, including his 196 against the UAE in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 competition, and 230 against Kenya in an Inter Continental Cup match.

Great recovery by junior cricketers

The Standard Bank Namibian U15 team staged a great recovery to beat Zambia by 119 runs in their African U15 Cricket qualifying match on Saturday.

Namibia batted first but were soon in trouble as Zambiaâ??s opening bowler Tyron Toms ripped through Namibiaâ??s top order.
