KZN Inland edge ahead

Kwazulu Natal Inland held the edge over Namibia at stumps on the first day of their CSA 3-Day match in Windhoek on Thursday.

The visitors took a 49-run first innings lead, after dismissing Namibia for 128 and replying with 177, and at stumps Namibia were already one wicket down in their second innings.

Namibia aim for first win

Namibia’s cricket team will be looking for their first win in the CSA Three-Day competition, when they take on Kwazulu Natal Inland at the Wanderers field as from Thursday.

Namibia have not won any of their seven matches to date, having drawn three and lost four, and are currently second last on the 14-team log with 43,78 points.

But their opponents, Kwazulu Natal Inland have also been struggling and are just two places above Namibia on 46,30 points, having won one, drawn three and lost three games.

Namibia take on Kwazulu Natal Inland in the Cricket South Africa series from Thursday, still looking for their first win in the Three-Day competition.

Namibia have drawn four and lost three of their opening seven matches and are currently second last on the 14-team log with 43,78 points.

Their opponents, Kwazulu Natal Inland have not done much better and are two places above Namibia in 11th place on 46,30 points, after one win, three draws and three defeats.

Boland lead the log with 89,18 points, followed by Free State on 78,46 and Eastern Province on 74,62.

WHS Old Boys win T20 trophy

FNB WHS Old Boys Cricket Club won the Namibian T20 League trophy after beating Wanderers 1 by five wickets on Saturday afternoon.

Wanderers batted first with Michau du Preez (30) and Wessel Myburgh (24) making a solid start.

Their middle order however collapsed as LP van der Westhuizen (8), Gerhard Lotter (5) and Niel Rossouw (1) went out in quick succession.

But a great rearguard action from Tobias Verwey, who scored 60 (7x4, 4x6) and JP Kotze (25 not out) saw Wanderers post a demanding total of 175 in their 20 overs.

Namibia beat Boland by 6 runs

Namibia beat Boland by six runs in a thrilling T20 match in Paarl on Sunday.

Boland won the toss and sent Namibia in to bat, and they did well to reach a total of 142 runs for five wickets off their 20 overs.

Stephen Baard top scored with 53 runs off 42 balls, before he was run out.

He received good support from Gerrie Snyman who scored 29 from 22 balls and Nicolaas Scholtz, who scored 38 from 41 balls.

Boland beat Namibia by 82 runs

Boland beat Namibia by 82 runs in their CSA Three-day match on Saturday, after dismissing Namibia for 179 runs in their second innings.

Namibia started the day at 43/2 - still 218 runs short of the victory target.

Christi Viljoen and Stephen Baard gave Namibia hope with a third wicket partnership of 56 runs before Baard was out for 37, with the total on 91.

Nicolaas Scholtz was next out for 5, but with the score at 122/4, Namibia were well in the game, still 139 runs short of victory.

CSA Challenge evenly poised

The CSA Three-Day Challenge between Namibia and Boland was evenly poised as Namibia reached 43/2 at stumps on Day 2, still 219 runs short of victory.

Namibia started the day at 110/7 in reply to Boland’s first innings total of 208, and did well to reach 173 all out.

Gerrie Snyman top scored with 50 runs, while he received good support from tailenders Brandon Viret (38), Shalako Groenewald (14) and Louis Klazinga (15).

Riyaad Henry was Boland’s best bowler with 4/24, while Hillroy Paulse took 3/48.

Namibia let slip advantage

Namibia let slip a fine start in their Cricket South Africa three-day match against Boland in Paarl on Thursday, and at stumps the hosts had fought their way back into a commanding position.

Namibia had the hosts in deep trouble at 91/6 at a stage, but a fine recovery by their lower order batsmen saw Boland recover to 208 all out. Boland then pressed home their advantage and at stumps Namibia were struggling at 110 for seven wickets.

Boland, who won the toss and elected to bat, were made to look very ordinary against a fired up Namibian bowling attack.

Namibian T20 semifinal spots booked

After two weekends of hard hitting cricket, the round robin stage of the Namibian Premier T20 League has been completed and four teams have grasped their semi-final places.

Wanderers 1 managed to top the log losing only one match against WHSOBCC 1, who finished second.

United 1 also just lost one game out of the five, but a draw against WHSOBCC saw them finishing fourth behind third placed Wanderers 2.

Watson rings the changes

Namibia’s cricket coach Doug Watson has made several changes to the team to take on Boland in their Cricket South Africa encounter in Paarl from Thursday.

Pieter Grove and Ricardo Strauss have been called up to the senior squad for the first time, while Under 19 captain Stephen Baard and experienced batsman Gerrie Snyman return to the side.

Wanderers’ opening batsman Pieter Grove replaces Wian van Vuuren who has a groin injury and according to Watson he deserves his chance.
