Watson starts off with a bang

Watson and Oaxaruse

Namibia’s new national cricket coach Doug Watson has begun his tenure with a big bang.

In his first series of matches in charge, the Cricket South Africa three-day and one-day matches against Griquas, Watson recorded wins in both formats of the game. This is particularly significant in light of the team’s performances the last few seasons in the CSA competition.

In the three-day competition the team finds itself off the bottom of the log and moving up to ninth position on the log after two matches.

They are followed by Boland who have nine points from three matches, while North West, Free State and Border are all on eight points.

Raymond van Schoor and LP van der Westhuizen are Namibia’s top batsmen in the competition and both appear amongst the top ten run scorers.

Williams steers Namibia to victory

Craig Williams

A great innings of 83 not out by Craig Williams steered Namibia to a four-wicket victory against Griqualand West in their CSA 50-over match on Sunday.

When Williams stepped to the crease Namibia were still 146 runs away from victory. Wickets continued to fall and when Nicolaas Scholtz was out for 8 runs, Namibia were struggling at 166 with only four wickets in hand.

But Williams and Bernard Scholtz steadied the innings with an unbeaten partnership of 63 runs to steer Namibia to victory.

Williams’ 83 runs came off only 95 balls and included six fours and one six.

Namibia beat Kenya by seven wickets in their second 50-over match on Saturday to draw the ICC World Cricket League series 1-1.

Kenya were all out for 187, and Namibia made light work of reaching the total - with the loss of only three wickets and eight overs in hand.

Sent in to bat, Kenya lost the early wicket of Duncan Allan for four when he was caught off Louis Klazinga’s bowling, but Alex Obanda and Irfan Karim repaired the damage with an 80-run second wicket partnership.

Namibia wrap up crushing win

Tanmay Mishra

Christi Viljoen and Louis Klazinga took three wickets apiece as Namibia completed an innings victory over Kenya on the final day of their Intercontinental Cup match in Windhoek.

Set up by Gerrie Snyman's unbeaten double hundred, Namibia's first-innings score of 630 for 7 declared was enough for them not to have to bat again, as Klazinga bowled Tanmay Mishra with Kenya still one run in arrears.

The win moved Namibia up to fourth, with 43 points from four completed matches, and left Kenya struggling in seventh, with only Canada below them. Ireland head the table with 67 points.
