Ambunda world title fight confirmed for Namibia

The much anticipated WBO Bantamweight world title fight between the challenger Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda, and the champion Pungluang Sor Singyu has been finalised and will now take place in Namibia on March 2, 2013.

“After long negotiations with our counterparts in Thailand we have finally mutually agreed to stage this historic fight in Namibia,” said Nestor Tobias, promoter of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Academy.

Paulus “Hitman” Moses retained his WBO International Lightweight title with a unanimous points victory over Jeremias Castillo of Argentina in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It was a great performance by Moses who dominated the 12-round fight from the start to win comfortably on points, with the three judges scoring the fight 120-107, 120-107, 119-108 in his favour.

After a cagey start, Moses picked up the tempo with some quick combinations in the second round as his fans started chanting his name.

A cracking fight can be expected when Paulus Moses defends his WBO International Lightwright title against Jeremias Castillo of Argentina on Saturday night.

Both boxers were extremely confident when they addressed a press conference in Windhoek on Tuesday.

Castillo, speaking through an interpreter, said he would knock Moses out by the fifth round.

“I want to thank the Namibian people who have made me very welcome here. I have trained very hard for this fight and I know that I will win by the fourth or the fifth round,” he confidently predicted.

Foreign boxers throw down the gauntlet

The foreign boxers who will top the bill at the Champions in the Desert boxing tournament on December 8 have thrown down the gauntlet to their Namibian opponents, with some provocative messages.

At a press conference in Windhoek on Wednesday, Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias read out some messages from the foreign boxers which were directed to their Namibian opponents.

Jeremias Castillo, the Argentinian boxer who will challenge Paulus Moses for his WBO international title in the main bout, did not mince his words.

THree champions

Namibian boxers feature prominently in the latest World Boxing Organisation rankings which were released last week, with eight Namibian boxers ranked amongst the top 15 in their various weight categories.

Namibia’s WBO International Bantamweight champion Paulus Ambunda is ranked at number one in the bantamweight category, and is now the number one challenger for the WBO title, which was won by Pungluang Sor Singyu of Thailand in October.

Namibia’s Sportsman of the Year, Paulus Ambunda has expressed his pride at winning the award as well as the other accolades that have come his way.

Ambunda was crowned Namibia’s Sportsman of the Year for the second time on October 26, which came barely a day after he won further accolades at the World Boxing Organisation’s annual convention in New York.

Moses to fight Castillo in Swakopmund

Paulus “Hitman” Moses will be the main attraction when he takes on Jeremias Castillo of Argentina at the ‘Champions in the Desert’ Boxing Bonanza which will take place at the Vineta Sports Centre in Swakopmund on December 8.

Announcing the boxing bonanza on Tuesday, Namibian promoter Nestor Tobias said that boxing fans at the coast will be able to see ‘world rated’ opponents in action and that the bonanza will also see boxers like Paulus Ambunda, Tyson Ushona, Wilbeforce Shihepo and Johannes Mwetupunga in action.

Stunning victory by Naidjala

Immanuel Naidjala scored a sensational fourth round knockout over Shabani Kilumbelumbe of Tanzania to retain his WBO Africa Interim Bantamweight title on Saturday night.

Naidjala’s speed and power was just too much for the Tanzanian, who went down early in the fourth round after a flurry of blows to the head and body.

Kilumbelumbe managed to get up but he didn’t last much longer as a Naidjala hook sent him crashing to the canvas and he was counted out after 1 minute 37 seconds.

Immanuel Naidjala will top the bill against Shabani Kilumbelumbe of Tanzania at the ‘Last Man Standing’ Boxing Bonanza to be staged at the Windhoek Country Club on Saturday evening.

Naidjala is one of Namibia’s hottest boxing prospects and still undefeated after 15 professional fights.

He has risen up the ranks and is currently the WBO Africa interim bantamweight champion while he is also ranked eighth in the world by the WBO.

Immanuel “Prince” Naidjala will top the bill in the “Last Man Standing” Boxing Bonanza on Saturday, November 3, when he defends his WBO Africa Bantamweight title against Shabani Kilumbelumbe of Tanzania over 12 rounds.

Naidjala is still undefeated after 15 pro fights and is ranked eighth in the world according to the latest WBO rankings, but he will have to be at his best against the tough Tanzanian, who has a record of 10 wins, three losses and one draw.
