Uushona to fight Zaveck

Betuel “Tyson” Uushona will now fight Jan Zaveck of Slovenia for the WBO intercontinental title on March 24 in Slovenia.

Uushona had been scheduled to fight Ghanaian Joshua Okine for the IBF intercontinental welterweight title in Accra on February 25.

Uushona’s trainer, Nestor Tobias said the promoter from Ghana had not sent them a new contract after they postponed the Okine fight from January 20 to February 25.

“After they postponed the fight, we were not offered another contract while everything with the fight against Zaveck was ready,” Tobias said.

Hitman going for world title

Paulus “The Hitman” Moses will now be fighting for the full WBO lightweight title and not the Interim WBO lightweight title after his opponent Ricky Burns was confirmed as the WBO's new lightweight world champion.

Burns became the full champion after the former WBO champion Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico moved up to the welterweight division.

Moses is scheduled to fight Burns on March 10 in Glasgow.

Moses’ trainer, Nestor Tobias said that the fact that the fight is now a world title fight did not change the way they had been working in the gym.

Hitman eager to fight Burns

Paulus “The Hitman” Moses said he will work hard at the gym to make sure that he wins the WBO interim lightweight title when he faces off against current holder Ricky Burns in Scotland on March 10.

“I will go to the gym and work hard to make sure that I will be ready in time for the fight,” Moses said.

“I have already been training, I didn’t take a break over the festive holidays. My trainer was away and is back now and he can work well with me and make sure that I will be ready for the fight,” the former WBA world titleholder said.

Uushona and Haikali fights postponed

Bethuel “Tyson” Uushona and Martin Haikali’s fights that were scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana on Saturday have been postponed to February 25.

Trainer and promoter, Nestor Tobias said the event where the two boxers were supposed to fight had to be postponed due to the television dates clashing with the Afcon tournament which is due to start on 21 January.

“The promoter said that he had to postpone the fight because of TV dates and they will clash with the Afcon football tournament,” Tobias said.

Awesome Shihepo wins in first round

Wilbeforce Shihepo gave an awesome performance to knock out Janos Olah of Hungary in the first round of their Super Middleweight fight in Offenburg, Germany on Saturday night.

Shihepo dominated the fight from the start and put Olah down with a straight right punch midway through the first round. Olah managed to beat the count, but Shihepo was all over him and once again dropped him to the canvas with a tremendous right uppercut.

Olah once again got up but he was clearly unsteady on his feet and the referee called an end to the fight about 2 minutes into the first round.

Moses to challenge Burns

Paulus The Hitman Moses will challenge Ricky Burns for the WBO interim lightweight title in Glascow, Scotland on March 10.

According to fightnews.com, Burns, who became Scotland’s first two-weight world champion in twenty years when he sensationally defeated Michael Katsidis last year, will make the first defence of the title on home soil after a year on the road.

Moses has no problem in travelling to challenge Burns in his backyard after winning the WBA world title in Japan against Yusuke Kobori in 2009.

Haikali going for knock out

Martin Haikali said he plans to knock out Samuel Amoako of Ghana when the two meet in his fifth WBO Africa lightweight title defence in Accra, Ghana on January 20.

It will be the second time that the two boxers meet, with Haikali narrowly beating Amoako on a split points decision a year ago.

“Last time when I faced him I almost knocked him out but the referee was saving him, but this time I will make sure to knock him out in the sixth or seventh round,” Haikai said.

Namibian boxer, Bethuel “Tyson” Uushona says he is ready for his IBF intercontinental welterweight title fight against Joshua Okine which will take place in Accra, Ghana on January 20.

“I am ready to face him, I have covered my whole training programme and now I am just waiting to travel there and face the guy,” Uushona said.

The current WBO Africa titleholder said he was happy to have a shot at fighting for the IBF title.

“This fight is something a boxer needs in his career, it will open a lot of doors for me to get better rated opponents in the future,” he said.

Boxing in Namibia continued to enjoy success in 2011 with several professional tournaments being staged, while a growing number of Namibian boxers started to make their presence felt at a professional level.

Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias received the World Boxing Organisation’s African Promoter of the Year award for the second year in a row after once again hosting some top class tournaments throughout the year.
