Mini Basketball Jamboree hosted in Tsumeb

The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) on Saturday successfully hosted a mini basketball jamboree in Tsumeb.

Almost 100 participants of the Tsumeb Mini Basketball Program came from St. Francis Primary School (boys team and girls team), Nomtsoub Primary School (boys team and girls team), Francis Galton Primary School (mixed team), Ondundu Primary School (boys team), Tsumeb English Medium Primary School (boys team) and Grootfontein (mixed team).

Several individual contests including ball handling and shooting skills motivated the children to continue working on their fundamentals.

German short term project supports Namibian basketball

The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) has taken another big step forward with a two-week visit of German coach Peter Schey.

Schey was sent by the German Federal Foreign Office and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and conducted training workshops in the Oshikoto and Oshana regions.

Sixty coaches, teachers and older players with interest in coaching youth basketball participated in the clinics.

Weiss visits Namibia

The president of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) Ingo Weiss is currently on a visit to Namibia to review the progress being made and to strengthen existing ties.

Weiss is also the chairperson of the German Sports Youth (DSJ), a committee member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), and the chairperson of the Youth Commission of the Internationall Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Weiss, who is being accompanied by his wife Bettina Weiss, arrived in Namibia on October 13 and will depart on October 20.

German trip

Four children of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) in Katutura, Windhoek went on a three-week trip to Germany during August 2012.

The reigning German champions Brose Baskets Bamberg had invited them to the "Cybex Summer Training Camp" which had 200 participants in attendance.

The players who travelled to Germany are Lino Nina Simao, Eino Absalom, Michael Shikemeni, who are all 13 years old, and fourteen-year-old Victoria Shilongo.

Primary learners win high school league

BAS Girls

The Basketball Artists School, consisting of Primary School children, pulled off a sensational triumph to win the trophy at the Khomas High School League in Windhoek last Saturday.

In the playoffs at Augustineum School, the girls of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) first defeated the very strong Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School 40-31 in the semi-final.

Then in the final, they gave Khomas High School no chance with en emphatic 42-14 victory.

NBF selects U20 national squads

After completing all regional trials, the Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) did not waste any time to select their preliminary U20 national squads.

In a three day clinic at Augustineum Secondary School in Windhoek, 40 girls and boys from all over Namibia had to undergo a tight schedule.

Following athletic tests, ball handling tests, shooting contests, 1-1-contests, 3-3 and 5-5 games the NBF selected its two preliminary squads for the Zone VI U20 Youth Games in Zambia in December.

The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) in conjunction with the Directorate of Sport in the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture on Saturday continued the U20 regional trials.

More than 30 players from Khomas and Hardap went through dribbling, passing and shooting drills and had the chance to showcase their playing skills in scrimmage games.

From the boys Fillemon Auwanga, Pedro Joao, Uakazapi Karuuombe, Andrew Oletu, Raphael Paulus, Reginald Sisande and Uerihorora Tjivikua were invited for the national trials in Windhoek from 26th to 28th April 2012.

NBF and DBB sign MoU

The Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the German Basketball Federation (DBB) in Windhoek on Monday.

Kerii Tjitendero signed the MoU for the NBF and Joachim Spagele for the DBB.

The agreement is meant to cultivate the relationship between the two governments according to Tjitendero.

“We have now come to a stage where we can see that there are more profound undertakings that can be looked at, at the grassroots,” Tjitendero said.

Namibia to host 3x3 basketball tournament

Namibia will host the FIBA 3 on 3 International Basketball Tournament at Augustineum on the 3rd and 4th of December.

The president of the Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) Kerii Tjitendero said they were expecting about 70 teams to participate in the tournament.

“The teams coming to participate that have confirmed are USA, Angola, South Africa and Zambia. We are expecting about 70 teams at the tournament,” Tjitendero said.

Bank Windhoek sponsors 3x3 Basketball Tournament

Bank Windhoek sponsors basketball

Bank Windhoek’s Social Investment Fund confirmed its commitment towards Basketball on Tuesday by sponsoring an amount of N$35 000 to the Namibia Basketball Federation.

The Community Development Basketball tournament and the FIBA 3X3 Basketball test tournament will see local participants rub shoulders with their counterparts from the SADC region and internationally acclaimed basketball players from beyond the SADC region.
