Galz and Goals on world stage

The Namibia football Association will be presenting the world renowned Galz & Goals Projects at a Football Symposium on Women Football in Frankfurt next week.

The NFA will be making a presentation on the success and challenges of the exciting Gals & Goals development project at the symposium which is organized by FIFA every four years during the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Jackey Gertze, from the NFA Women’s Desk, will be accompanied by secretary general Barry Rukoro at the symposium which will take place from July 15 to 17.

Moses vd Byl and Pumpkins lead G&G leagues

Moses van der Byl and the Pumpkins U15 team are leading the Windhoek NFA Galz and Goals U13 and U15 leagues after two weeks of matches.

Moses van der Byl has a total of 13 points after winning four matches and drawing one since the start of the new season. Pumpkins U15 are leading the U15 league after having won three out of three matches and have nine points.

In the first week of competition, Moses van der Byl beat Pumpkins A 7-0 and then went on to draw 1-1 against Eros. In their last match they beat Pumkins B 3-0.

Lucinda Kasume - A star in the making

The third edition of the NFA Galz and Goals league kicked off in Windhoek recently and already some talent has been unearthed in the form of 13-year-old Lucinda Kasume who plays for Moses van der Byl Primary School.

The striker hopes to one day play for the Brave Gladiators and represent the country in the World Cup.

“I actually started playing football when I was much younger with my brothers and cousins and that was when I first realised how much I love the game,” Lucinda said about how she first got involved with football.

The NFA Galz and Goals 2011 league kicked off in all the different towns recently with more girls taking part in the U13 and U15 leagues.

In the Omaheke region, the launch for the new league took place at the Legare Sports Complex, Gobabis with about 90 girls from various schools taking part.

In one of the U13 matches, defending champions Gobabis Primary School took on Nossoville Primary School in an exciting match in front of the crowd of supporters who turned up to watch.

G&G to host Healthy Lifestyle Workshop

The NFA Galz and Goals will host a four-day healthy lifestyle workshop for 40 coaches from six regions across Namibia from 26 to 29 May.

The initiative, in partnership with UNICEF and SCORE Namibia will take the opportunity to demonstrate the power of peer leadership.

The focus of the educational event is to provide a refresher course on the healthy lifestyles component of the football development initiative where coaches can act as positive role models within the communities in which they work.

Two Gladiators players off to Germany

Westphalia Galz and Goals Godfathers Programme

Two of the senior Brave Gladiators players, Stacy Naris and Zenatha Coleman, have been invited to play football for fifth league team Borussia Bocholt in the Westphalia region of Germany for a month.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) technical director, Klaus Staerk made the announcement on Wednesday.

“Two players have been invited to a very nice football club were they will train and play for a period of four weeks and they will have the opportunity to learn from the club,” Staerk said.

Galz and Goals School of Excellence camp a success

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) through its Galz and Goals project recently held a four-day football and health lifestyles training camp called the NFA Galz and Goals Elite Players School of Excellence in Windhoek.

At the camp that took place from 23 to 26 February the girls were introduced to a number of health related activities while also being exposed to a high standard of football training.

On Saturday, the NFA’s Galz & Goals football initiative in partnership with UNICEF and SCORE reached out to community members, providing voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) services and important healthy lifestyle messages to adolescent girls.

The healthy lifestyle football festival which took place last Saturday incorporated football, various health activities and sharing of information in an effort to motivate behavioral change and educate both the girls and the community of the dangers of HIV.

The Khomasdal Field in Windhoek was a hive of activity on Saturday morning as the NFA’s Galz & Goal Healthy Lifestyle football festival in partnership with UNICEF and SCORE attracted over 200 excited young girls, as each team competed for first prize in the tournament.

Not only were the girls participating in an U13 & U15 football tournament but they also got involved with various healthy lifestyle services available at the event.

On Saturday the 12th of February, NFA’s Galz & Goals football program in partnership with UNICEF and SCORE will reach out to community members, providing VCT services and important healthy lifestyle messages to adolescent girls.
The Khomasdal stadium in Windhoek will be hosting a one day NFA Galz & Goals football festival, with a focus on addressing one of Namibia’s biggest development challenges - HIV/AIDS.
