Tania and Angus Claassen win a trip to France

Tania Claassen of Windhoek is the lucky winner of an all expenses paid trip for two to France to follow the Namibian rugby team at the World Cup in September.
The competition was initiated by MTC and members of the public must answer a simple question about the Namibian rugby team via SMS, to stand a chance of winning a prize. Four more winners will be announced before the competition closes at the end of August.

Husselmann is new coach

Hakkies Husselmann has been appointed as the new coach of the Nambian rugby tem, following the dismissal of Johan Venter.
The chief executive officer of the Namibia Rugby Union told Namibia Sport that Husselman had been appointed after giving a good account of himself at the IRB Nations Cup in Romania.

Romania beat Namibia 28-16 in their final match at the IRB Nations Cup tournament in Bucharest, Romania on Saturday, June 16.
It was Namibiaâ??s third successive defeat, which saw them finishing at the bottom of the log.

Venter sacked as coach

Johan Venter was sacked as coach of the national rugby team on Friday, June 15, following the outcome of a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, June 13.
The chief executive officer of the Namibia Rugby Union, Christo Alexander issued the following curt statement today.

Namibia down to 24th in the world

Namibia has dropped one position down to 24th on the world rankings, following their 24-16 loss to Georgia at the International Rugby Boardâ??s Nations Cup tournament on June 6.
The defeat sees Namibia being overtaken by Chile, who are now ranked 23rd on 59,27 points, while Namibia are 24th on 58,96 points.

Argentina A 47 Namibia 13

Namibia lost its second match at the IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest, Romania when they went down 47-13 to Argentina A on June 10.
Despite the big scoreline, it was a much improved performance by Namibia, who lost their opening match 26-18 to Georgia.

Namibia lose narrowly to Georgia

Namibia lost 26-18 to Georgia in their opening match at the IRB Nations Cup tournament in Bucharest, Romania on June 5.
The victory will be a psychological boost for Georgia who will meet Namibia in Group D of the World Cup in France in September.

Namibia thrash Zambia

Namibia thrashed Zambia 85-10, after leading 33-0 at halftime to win their Confederation of African Rugby Cup at Windhoekâ??s Hage Geingob Stadium on May 26.
Namibia were far too strong for the visitors and had their finishing been better they could easily have scored a century of points. Especially in the first half, several attacking moves broke down due to handling errors, although Zambia also deserve credit for some courageous defending.

Van der Merwe back in World Cup squad

Veteran flanker Schalk van der Merwe is back in the Namibian training group which is preparing for the Rugby World Cup.
Van der Merwe was initially not selected for the initial group of 49 players after he failed to attend national trials in Windhoek at the end of April. According to Namibia Rugby Union CEO, Christo Alexander, Van der Merwe however apologized for his absence, saying he was in Johannesburg at the time and could not return back to Windhoek in time. The NRU accepted his apology and included him in the squad.
