Brave Warriors must win - Kaanjuka

The Brave Warriors will have to win their encounter against Malawi on Saturday or jeopardise their chances in their 2014 World Cup Group F campaign.

These are the sentiments of coach Bernard Kaanjuka who stressed that the Brave Warriors match on Saturday at the Independence Stadium against the Flames of Malawi was crucial for the future of Namibia in the race for Brazil 2014.

Blue Waters hold Tigers to a draw

Blue Waters held Tigers to a goalless draw at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In a lacklustre match of few chances and even fewer spectators, Ananias Gebhardt and Protash Kabwe came close for Tigers in the first half while Admire Dzukamanja headed over the bar for Blue Waters.

In the second half Blue Waters winger Paulus Job hit the crossbar with a freekick while Tigers midfielder Protash Kabwe also hit the cross bar after a counterattack.

Civics beat Orlando Pirates 2-0

Civics eased their relegation fears with a 2-0 victory against Orlando Pirates on Friday night.

Sadney Urikhob scored both goals, one in each half. The first came when he received the ball on the edge of the box and fired in a low shot and the second came after a great exchange of passes with Alex Ferreira.

The result sees Civics moving up to sixth place while Pirates remain third.

Tura Magic beat Black Africa

Tura Magic caused a big upset when they beat log leaders Black Africa 1-0 on Friday night.

Junias Theophilus scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half when he ran onto a throughball by Kalusha Alhassan and beat Arnold Subeb from close range.

BA threw everything at Tura in the second half but their defence stood firm as they held on to an important victory that throws the title race wide open again.

BA are now just three points ahead of African Stars with five matches remaining.

Naris and Kotjipati settling in Germany

Brave Gladiators Stacey Naris and Veweziua Kotjipati are enjoying life in Germany where they are currently playing in the fourth division of women’s football.

The pair who recently left for Germany, ply their trade with TuS Lipperode in the Union League, which is the fourth highest in the German women's soccer league.

Nfa.org.na caught up with the ladies and asked how they were settling in Germany and they both seem to be finding their feet.

Kapukare appointed Civics technical advisor

Former Tigers coach Willem Kapukare has been appointed as Civics’ technical advisor with immediate effect.

According to Civics’ team manager Paul Stramis, Jeremy Zimmer will remain head coach but will be assisted by Kapukare to try to steer Civics out of the difficult position they currently find themselves in.

“Our log position is not good and we don’t want to find ourselves having to fight to avoid relegation in the final matches. Civics’ management committee therefore decided to bring Kapukare in to assist Jerry Zimmer with the coaching duties,” he said.

Namibia’s Brave Warriors climbed two places to 121 in the world on the latest FIFA rankings which were released on March 14.

The Brave Warriors are now ranked 34th in Africa and seventh in the SADC region.

Zambia, who are ranked 36 in the world, are the top ranked team in the SADC region, followed by South Africa (60 in the world), Angola (95), Zimbabwe (100), Mozambique (107), Malawi (111) and Namibia (121).

African Stars coach Ali Akan has admitted that his team is starting to feel the pressure as they reach the final stretch of the 2012/13 Namibia Premier League season.

Stars managed to beat Ramblers 1-0 to close the gap on log leaders Black Africa to three points, but they had to defend desperately in the final stages to keep Ramblers out, who nearly equalised when a shot by midfielder Knowledge Mutyoraringa hit the cross bar and nearly bounced over the line.

Namibian Newspaper Cup launched

The 13th edition of the Namibian Newspaper Cup was launched at the Namibia Football Association’s Soccer House on Thursday, with The Namibian announcing a total sponsorship of more than N$1 million for this year’s event.

The winning team will receive N$18 300, the runners up will receive N$10 000 and the semifinal losers will each receive N$8 000.

African Stars beat Ramblers 1-0 in an exciting Namibia Premier League match on Wednesday night to close the gap on log leaders Black Africa to three points.

Bradley Wermann scored the only goal of the game just before halftime when he received a pass from Meraai Swartbooi and sent in a low shot from the edge of the box into the right hand corner.

There was plenty of action and numerous chances on both sides, but Ramblers finished stronger and nearly equalised in the dying minutes.
