Kaanjuka’s 50 per cent record

Bernard Kaanjuka had a credible record as Brave Warriors’ interim coach, with a 50 per cent success ratio.

Since his appointment as caretaker coach in September 2011, the Brave Warriors have played 15 matches, winning four, losing four and drawing seven matches.

In the process they scored 15 goals while conceding seven goals.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) and interim coach of the Brave Warriors Bernard Kaanjuka on Monday partied ways following Namibia’s 1-0 defeat to Malawi on Saturday.

In an email written to the NFA president John Muinjo, Kaanjuka said:

“I really from the bottom of my heart, would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to coach the Brave Warriors."

Namibia’s chances of qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup were dealt a serious blow when they lost 1-0 to Malawi in Windhoek on Saturday.

Substitute Gabadhini Mhango scored the winning goal midway through the second half when he fired home a cross by Fisher Kondowe after a quick counterattack.

It was a poor performance by the Brave Warriors who looked disjointed and out of sorts, while chances were few and far between.

Namibia started on the ascendancy but Malawi had the first real chance when Fisher Kondowe beat Jamu Ngatjizeko in the box but shot narrowly wide.

Young Gladiators beat Westfalia

Namibia’s Under 20 women’s soccer team the Young Gladiators beat a Westfalia Youth team 1-0 in a friendly international at the NFA Technical Centre on Sunday afternoon.

A goal in the dying minutes by substitute Thomalina Adams gave the Young Gladiators a morale boosting victory in the first of three international friendlies that will be contested between the two teams.

Namibia also had a goal disallowed in the 73rd minute when Defny Nowases scrambled in a loose ball but the referee adjudged that the Westfalia keeper had been fouled.

Namibia lose 1-0 to Malawi

Malawi beat Namibia 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Windhoek Independence Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mighty Gunners striker Harold Ochurub has built up a two-goal lead in the MTC Premiership Top Goal scorer of the Season competition.

After 17 matches Ochurub has scored 9 goals to take a two-goal lead over team mate Vernon Klaazen, Black Africa striker Roger Katjiteo and Ramblers striker Heinrich Kazerua.

Three players are on joint third position on 6 goals namely Bradley Wermann of African Stars, Ryno Musambani of Orlando Pirates and Eslin Kamuhanga of Black Africa.

Brave Warriors coach Bernard Kaanjuka is in confident mood ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Malawi, saying that they will show them who Namibia is.

Kaanjuka was reacting to press statements in the Malawi media which he said showed a lack of respect towards Namibia.

“If you read the comments that they are making in their newspapers and even the comments from their coach, you can see that they don’t respect us at all," he said.

The Brave Warriors have the potential to go all way to Rio in the race for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Malawi could just be a victim of the cause on Saturday.

According to former Brave Warriors midfield wizard Johannes Congo Hindjou, the current Warriors crop consist of experienced campaigners such as Rudolf Bester and Henrico Botes, while also consisting of up and coming stars like Petrus Shitembi, Sadney Urikhob and others.

Hindjou said the Brave Warriors can take all three points when they meet Malawi in their World Cup Group F qualifying match on Saturday.

These are the sentiments of coach Bernard Kaanjuka who stressed that the Brave Warriors match on Saturday at the Independence Stadium against the Flames of Malawi was crucial for the future of Namibia in the race for Brazil 2014.

Blue Waters held Tigers to a goalless draw at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In a lacklustre match of few chances and even fewer spectators, Ananias Gebhardt and Protash Kabwe came close for Tigers in the first half while Admire Dzukamanja headed over the bar for Blue Waters.

In the second half Blue Waters winger Paulus Job hit the crossbar with a freekick while Tigers midfielder Protash Kabwe also hit the cross bar after a counterattack.
