Omusati gunning for victory

The Omusati Regional Under-17 team has been given the mission of returning home on Sunday with the trophy of the inaugural Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup which gets underway at Keetmanshoop on Thursday morning.

Jacob Aindongo, chairman of the Omusati region says their Under-17 team has been in camp for the past two weeks under the tutelage of Hamunyela Nambango and the mandate is to go there and win the cup.

The host region of the 2013 Scorpion Zinc U/17 Cup, the Karas region reckons their team will be the toast of the region for years to come as they plan to win the inaugural competition.

Speaking to nfa.org.na over the weekend, Kara’s region chairperson Harry Jahs said, the Karas regional Under-17 team has been hard at work mastering tactics and increasing their running capacity over the past weeks, in anticipation of a great showing during the Scorpion Zinc Cup which starts on Thursday morning at the Keetmanshoop Stadium.

Korukuve brace puts Stars into semis

A first half brace from African Stars striker Edwin Korukuve saw Stars march into the semifinals of the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup.

In other quarterfinal matches on Saturday, the Rundu-pair of United Stars and Rundu Chiefs, and Mighty Gunners of Otjiwarongo also reached the last four.

In an all-Northern Stream First Division clash at the Rundu Stadium, Rundu’s United Stars took on Otjiwarongo’s African Lions and it was the former who prevailed with a narrow 1-0 victory at the packed stadium.

Rundu Chiefs are determined to finish the season on a high as they host Orlando Pirates in the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup quarterfinals at the Rundu Stadium on Saturday.

The Premiership side are finding it too hard to survive the drop back to the Northern Stream First Division and have only three matches to determine their destiny but according to their young goalkeeper and captain Edward Maova, Chiefs’ survival drive will start against Pirates on Saturday.

Ochurub moves four goals clear

Mighty Gunners striker Harold Ochurub moved four goals clear at the top of the Goalscorers Log after Round 19 last weekend.

Ochurub was once again on target over the weekend, scoring both Gunners’ goals in their 4-2 defeat to African Stars.

Despite Ochurub’s fine form, Gunners are struggling in second last position on the log and are in danger of being relegated.

Ramblers striker Heinrich Kazerua and African Stars midfielder Bradley Wermann share second spot on 8 goals each.

Stars aim for Bidvest Namibia Cup semis

African Stars will have to be strong at the back when they take on Hotspurs in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Bidvest Cup on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

According to African Stars captain Pat-Nevin Uanivi, Stars have been letting in too many goals and that can be costly against a Hotspurs side that have nothing to lose when they face off in the second match of the day at the Sam Nujoma stadium at 18h00.

“In the Cup we have been scoring but also letting in many goals and we have to make sure at the back on Saturday because there are no second chances in the Cup,” he said.

BA beat Civics amidst controversy

Black Africa beat Civics 2-1 in a controversial match on Friday evening.

Muna Katupose put BA ahead barely a minute after replacing Jerome Louis, when he slammed home a cross by Willy Stephanus on 63m.

14m later Marco van Wyk headed in a cross to make it 2-0 and although Civics players argued intensely with the linesman for an offside, the goal stood.

Sadney Urikhob pulled one back for Civics on 86m wit a fine individual goal.

Botes extends Platinum Stars stay

Experienced Brave Warriors’ striker Henrico Botes has extended his stay with his South African Club Platinum Stars for another year.

According to Kickoff.com, Botes inked a new one-year deal with the ABSA Premiership side Platinum Stars following his best ever season for the Rustenburg-based side.

Botes has scored some crucial goals for Stars this season to help them to their best position in recent years as they are currently second on the Premiership log on 45 points, seven behind the leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Shipanga, Guther attend International Coaching Course

Namibian soccer coaches Gerald Guther and Jacqui Shipanga left for Germany over the weekend to attend a three-week International Coaching Course.

According to a press release issued by the German Embassy in Windhoek, the coaching course has been organised by the German Football Association (DFB), and will take place in Hennef, Germany in April and May 2013.

“Shipanga and Güther were amongst the best performers at a previous course and will now strive to receive the A Certificate for coaching,” the press release stated.

Stars close the gap to one point

African Stars closed the gap on log leaders Black Africa to only one point after completion of Round 18 over the weekend.

Stars came back from a goal down to beat Tura Magic 4-2 on Friday night to move up to 39 points, while Black Africa were held to a 1-1 draw by Blue Waters in Walvis Bay on Saturday to move up to 40 points.

In Walvis Bay, Black Africa took the lead early in the second half through winger Willy Stephanus, but Admire Dzukamanja equalised with 10m to go when he headed in from a freekick.
