SA hold advantage against Namibia

Namibia face an uphill battle to qualify for the 2009 Inline Hockey World Cup after losing 3-2 to South Africa in Swakopmund last Sunday.
Namibia will play the return leg of the qualifier in Johannesburg on Saturday evening and will have to win by at least two clear goals to qualify for next year’s World Cup.

In Swakopmund, Namibia fielded several newcomers and South Africa exploited their inexperience to take an early lead.

Namibia to face SA in Inline Hockey World Cup qualifier

Namibia will take on South Africa in the first leg qualifier for the 2009 Inline Hockey World Championships in Swakopmund on Sunday, August 24.

The return leg will take place in Johannesburg the following weekend, on August 30.
The first game will be staged as part of the annual Coastal Pirates Tournament to be held from August 22-25 at the SFC Hall in Swakopmund.

The winner of the qualification games will join Great Britain, Brazil and Hungary in Group D for the IIHF Men’s World Championships 2009 to be held in Germany.

Namibian women win bronze in Inline Hockey World Team Cup

The Namibian womenâ??s Inline Hockey team won the bronze medal in the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany on Saturday when they beat Japan 4-1 in the third place play-off.

Namibia played its best match at the tournament and dominated the match from the start.

Namibian women lose to Canada, Finland

Namibia lost their opening two matches at the Womenâ??s World Inline Hockey Championships. On July 6 Finland beat Namibia 3-1 and on July 7 Canada beat Namibia 5-1. Namibia now face two more tough matches against the Czech Republic and France on July 8.

Namibia lose to Germany, Czech Republic

Namibia lost both its matches at the World Junior inline Hockey Championships on July 3 against Germany and the Czech Republic. Namibia will now play out for the seventh and eight positions. Gudrun Denker reports.

Namibia lose to USA, Mexico

Namibia lost its third and fourth games at the Junior Inline Hockey World Championships to the USA and Mexico respectively. Namibia will now face the strong Czech team in the quarterfinals.

Team Namibia played its second game at the World Junior Inline Hockey Championships against a Switzerland team that was accompanied by a full four rows of players.

Great Britain 8 Namibia 2

Namibia lost its opening match 8-2 against Great Britain at the Junior Menâ??s Inline Hockey World Championships in Philadelphia, Great Britain on June 29. Gudrun Denker reports.

Sunday 09h45 had us pitched against the second seeded Great Britain. Team Namibia started well against a strong opponent. The defence had to work overtime as the Brits showered an onslaught of shots on our goal. Oliver Thors saved 21 of the 23 shots on our goal for that period. Time and again our team had to prevent rebounds after an attempted shot on our goal.

Pirates dominate at Cazadores tourney

Coastal Pirates got back to winning ways when they won most of the categories at the Cazadores Inline Hockey Tournament over the weekend.

At the previous Badgers tournament in March, Pirates suffered some shock defeats, also losing the Open division to Scorpions of Otjiwarongo. But this time around they had a full strength team and went on to win the Open category, as well as the U10, U14 and U16 categories.
