Hold onto your seats ladies and gentleman! On Saturday the 22nd of May, the Windhoek Motocross Club will host the third leg of the championship at the Gallina Motocross Park.

You may think this is just another day in the dirt but take it from me, this dirt bike stuff is amazing.

Awesome racing at the coast

When I heard that Obeco and Southey were combining to host the second leg of the MotoX and QuadX championship outside Swakopmund, I knew I’d better go and check it out. I’m glad I did because it turned out to be a Dirt Bike Bonanza of note.

When I got there I couldn’t believe my eyes. Rudi Brand and his team from the coast had designed an incredible track. They had a jump there that was only slightly smaller than Dune 7. And the rest of the track was way out there. I mean Xtreme radical.

On the 17th of April the second Motocross championship race takes place in Swakopmund. The venue for this major event will be the Coastal Cement Works race track just opposite the salt fields, 10km outside of Swakopmund on the road to Wlotzkas Baken.

The track was prepared by the members of the Namib Offroad Club and is in excellent condition. The participation of MX-specialist Jon Gutteridge from Great Britain is a definitive highlight and will give the race an international flavour.

Another successful and exciting race in the Bank Windhoek Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMSF) Enduro Championship was held on Saturday, 3 April 2010, at Monte Christo just north of Windhoek with a record number of 80 riders competing. This was also the second round of the Africa Motorcycle Union / Southern Off-road Challenge (AMU/ SORC) series.

During the race, the second in the 2010 series and co-sponsored by Snyman Transport, the riders had to cover more than 210 kilometers in sometimes very challenging and muddy terrain.

For twelve long months Tommi Gous went without a win due to Björn Bierbrauer's superior riding. However, this past Saturday the tide changed. After two second places during the preliminary heats, Tommi Gous on his new 450cc Yamaha experienced a great final race.

The Gallina Moto Cross Park, situated 15 km north, outside of Windhoek on the road towards Okahandja, will host this season's first race of the 2010 WMCC Moto Cross championships. Snyman Transport has generously sponsored the Windhoek Moto Cross Club (WMCC).

Our Namibian MX-stars and Quad-specialists have been waiting for this event for weeks and now, finally the season will kick off. The track at Gallina has undergone a couple of changes and there will also be a change in procedure.

Motocross 2009 in review

Peter Mitchell

By Bernd Kroemer

The year 2009 was marked by a decline in spectator numbers. The dissatisfactory sponsorship situation must be adressed as well. Another critical point is the recruitment of young talents, since due to a lack of riders the 65cc Class stopped existing this year. Here however, help is already on the way in the form a new track being built at the clubhouse in Olympia, which is suitable for children.

On Saturday 12 FMX athletes of the IFMXF arrived on the African continent and jumped Windhoek for the NIGHT of the JUMPs into the ground. The air was burning on the FMX obstacle course at Tony Rust Race Track. Remi Bizouard gambled away in the qualifying round and missed the finals. But in the end he could celebrate, as his closest rivals Libor Podmol and Jose Miralles only managed to finish fourth and fifth respectively, which ensured that Bizouard successfully defended his title with an unassailable lead of 23 points.

Namibian Inter Series

By Bernd Kroemer

After eight unsuccessful attempts to win the annual Namibian Motocross Inter-Series, Ross Branch from Botswana finally grabbed the coveted Jägermeister-Trophy last Saturday in style as well as the prize-money of N$25 000. And to top it off, all of this happened in front of his parents who travelled all the way to Namibia.

Exciting opening of Inter-Series at the coast

By Bernd Kroemer

This was a picture-book event, everything was just the way it’s supposed to be - excellent organisation by the host Namib Off-Road Club, a good number of spectators, first-class riders, and a maximum victory for the representative of the Bike & Quad Clinic Team from Botswana, Ross Branch.
