From the 17th to the 19th of August, the Moto-Cross Africa Championships 2007 will be hosted in the vicinity of Kenyaâ??s capital, Nairobi.
Planning by the Namibians already started early this season, but by March it was clear that the costs for the Namibian national team would be too high. As often before, the endeavour failed due to the costs for the transportation of the bikes. Unfortunately the invitation had to be turned down.

Seven races, seven wins! This goes for our guest from Botswana, the pro Ross Branch, after the seventh leg of the Namibian motocross series in Swakopmund on July 21.
Ross already rode in Germany for renowned racing teams such as Pfeil-Kawasaki, Bodo Schmidt-KTM and Sturm-Kawasaki-Team. His unparalleled success in Namibia is therefore predictable. He likes the Namibian racing tracks and the professionally organised events. Of course he is also keen on the popular after-parties as well! Therefore he takes on the burden of travelling to and fro in order to participate in every single Namibian MX-race. His latest victory wasnâ??t unexpected, but apart from that, the racing day held a couple of surprises in store. And all that in front of the eyes of the representatives of First National Bank, the generous sponsor!

As expected, the rightfull winner of the Open/125cc Class once again came from Botswana. Ross Branch won his races without much ado but his lead over the rest of the pack is getting smaller! The MX-pro from Botswana, who's races in Namibia are sponsored by Namibia Technical Services, collects the â??silverwareâ? but at the same time does a lot to improve the sport's reputation in Namibia.

THE young man from Botswana on his Kawasaki has nothing to fear: 5 races â?? 5 victories! However, the competition in the Open/125cc Class is getting tougher. Rainer Becker on a strong Yamaha, put some pressure on him during the last race four weeks ago.

On the 19th of May the 5th Moto Cross Championships race will be held at the Gallina Moto Cross Park, outside the capital of Windhoek, on the road towards Okahandja. This race is part of the 2007 Wesbank Challenge Series, sponsored by WESBANK, an affiliate of First National Bank of Namibia.

Gobabis was the scene of the 4. Moto Cross Championships race and so far it was without exaggerating, the highlight of the season. Wikus Engelbrecht, the driving force behind this spectacle in Gobabis, has done a great job organising the event together with his men. Everything was just perfect! The track was exceptional and the 30-metre jump just in front of the beer-tent was the attraction. A big thank you goes to Tobie Barlow.

The MX-bikes were barely rid of the aggressive salty sand from the coast, when they were already moved in an easterly direction: to Gobabis. Messrs Big-5, headed by Wikus Engelbrecht, acts as the main sponsor. Wikus is also the driving force behind the Gobabis Moto Cross Club. According to received information the track was broadened and a 30m jump was built in front of the spectators terrace. The riders enjoy riding in Gobabis, because the consistency of the soil is absolutely unique in Namibia.

Who will ever defeat him on Namibian soil? I am talking about the young Moto Cross rider from Botswana: Ross Branch. Ross feels right at home in Namibia and he once again showed that during the 3rd Wesbank- Championships race over the long Easter-weekend in Swakopmund. He loves fast racing, flying over table tops, turning his Kawasaki sideways in a "Whip" and then landing securely and continuing the wild chase across the race track at the salt fields. On two occasions he had to fight from way back to the head of the pack but it didn't hinder him from collecting three heat victories and the maximum number of points at the end of the day.

This year`s Easter-weekend is dedicated wholly to motor sport. On Friday the 6th of April another Wesbank Moto Cross Championships race will be held on the race-track near the salt pans. On Saturday a Rally-event will be held and on Sunday, 8th of March, the Enduro-Working group (WMCC) will host a CTM-Enduro race with start and finish also located on the MX-track at the salt pans.

Ross Branch of Botswana dominated the second leg of the Namibian Motocross Series at the Gallina Race Track outside Windhoek on Saturday.
Branch won both heats in the Open Class as well as the King of the Dirt to win the Wesbank Trophy for the second time this season. He was also the overall winner of the first leg of the championships at the Gallina track in February.
