TISAN wins CUCSA Games

Namibia women's soccer team

The Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia (TISAN) won Gold in Football, Tennis, Volleyball and Netball and dominated Athletics but came up short of success in Chess, Table Tennis and Basketball as the CUCSA Games concluded in Windhoek on Thursday night.

Football

In Men’s Football, Namibia beat Lesotho 3-0 in the final while Botswana defeated Malawi 4-1 in the third and fourth place playoff match.

The TISAN women football team took gold with a 1-0 win over Botswana in the final, while Zambia finished third after their 3-2 win over Zimbabwe.

Netball

Namibia make a clean sweep of tennis titles

Namibia made a clean sweep of the tennis competition at the 2012 Cucsa Games, winning all five the titles on offer.

Johan de Witt won the men’s singles title on Thursday, after his opponent in the final, Kondwani Gondwe of Zambia had to withdraw due to an elbow injury, while Riekie Honiball beat compatriot Teri Olivier 6-1, 6-0 in the women’s final.

On Wednesday, Namibia’s Nandi Jordaan and Teri Olivier teamed up to win the women’s doubles title after beating Pauline Phiri and Rosemary Banda of Zimbabwe 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Namibia win soccer titles at Cucsa Games

Namibia won both the men and women’s soccer titles at the Cucsa Games on Thursday.

In the men’s final, Namibia comfortably beat Lesotho 3-0 after leading 1-0 at halftime.

Namibia attacked from the start and winger Jaanda Ngozu already hit the back of the net after only two minutes, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Lesotho came close on 16m when the ball bounced around dangerously in Namibia’s box, but Simon Shikokola cleared the danger.

Mixed fortunes for TISAN at CUCSA Games

The Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia (TISAN) team is gunning for gold in Football, Tennis and Netball, but is finding the going tough in Chess and Basketball at the CUCSA Games which are currently underway in Windhoek.

Football

The TISAN male football team secured their place in the final of the Cucsa Games with a hard fought 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Botswana on Tuesday afternoon.

The two sides played to a goalless draw after 120 minutes and could only be separated by penalties.

The 16th edition of the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games are underway in Windhoek and here are some of the latest results .

Football

The Namibia men’s football team boasting the likes of Ronald Ketjijere, Mervin Katire, Pat Uanivi, Robert Nganjone and Panduleni Nekundi amongst others, won Group A with maximum points after beating Zimbabwe 3-1 on Sunday and Malawi by the same scoreline on Monday.

Namibia off to winning start at CUCSA Games

Namibia got off to a good start in the Confederation of University and College Sport Associations (CUCSA) Games that started in Windhoek on Sunday.

Namibia’s soccer team came from a goal down to beat Zimbabwe 3-1, while Namibia’s netball team thrashed Zimbabwe 88-15.

In other codes, Namibia’s basketball team narrowly lost to Angola 62-58, while Namibia’s men’s volleyball team beat Zimbabwe 3-1.

In the opening soccer match on Sunday evening, Namibian striker Panduleni Nekundi played a starring role as Namibia came from behind to beat Zimbabwe 3-1.

CUCSA Games to start in Windhoek

The Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia (TISAN) will host the 2012 Confederation of Universities and College of Southern Africa (CUCSA Zone VI) Games from Sunday, July 15 to Friday, July 20, in Windhoek Namibia.

Teams for the 16th edition of the SADC Student Games will be arriving in Windhoek from Thursday, July 12, while the opening ceremony will take place at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium at 13h00 on Sunday.
