Duddy wins Senior Golf Champs

Barney Duddy won the Bank Windhoek 2012 Senior Golf Championship which took place at the Windhoek Country Club on May 25 and 26.

Duddy, who beat a total of 32 golfers to the prize, won the tournament with a total of 77 points.

Not only is he the overall champion but he is also first in the Over 70 category. He was followed by Gert Goosen in second place, while Johnny Adams came third. The over 80 champion was Wolfie Trossbach.

15-year-old Dreesbeimdieke wins Stableford Championships

Wiltrud Rugheimer, Jessica Dreesbeimdieke and Laetitia Brink

Junior golfer Jessica Dreesbeimdieke produced a great performance to win the Maerua Spar Stableford Championships on Sunday.

At the end of the 36-hole event, the 15-year-old Dreesbeimdieke was level on 61 points with Laetitia Brink and Wiltrud Rugheimer and the match had to be decided on a play-off.

Dreesbeimdieke went on to win the play-off with Brink coming second and Rugheimer third. Cornelia Alberts finished fourth.

The 11th Bank Windhoek golf day in aid of Welfare will take place on 2 September 2011 at the Windhoek Golf Club.

This year a fantastic prize awaits the skilled or lucky golfers that can hit a hole-in-one on either the 9th or the 13th hole. On these holes golfers can qualify to win a Honda Jazz.

This coming weekend the Windhoek Country Club will be the venue where the top female golfers in Namibia will tackle one another to see who will lift the trophy as the Bank Windhoek Namibian Open Ladies Amateur Golfer.

A total of 36 amateur female golfers from across the country have entered for the competition. This is the 24th consecutive year that Bank Windhoek is sponsoring the Open. As more and more female golfers joined the “men’s golfing world” Bank Windhoek graciously agreed to sponsor this prestigious event for both men and women separately.

Trossbach is senior champion

Wolfie Trossbach became the National Senior Golf Champion when he hunted down all other competitors in the Bank Windhoek Senior Golfers National Championships, held at the Windhoek Country Club this past weekend. At 83 years of age Wolfie outpaced all of the younger golfers to take the honours.

Schalk wins Namibian Open

Schalk van der Merwe from Gobabis showed the golfers from bigger clubs how it is done when he won the Bank Windhoek Namibia Amateur Open Golf Championship for 2011, over the past weekend. Schalk prevailed under less than perfect conditions to take the coveted title of Amateur Open Champion for 2011.

Under windy conditions and thick roughs, 62 amateur male golfers battled over 54 holes to be crowned champion. However, the golf course itself is in excellent condition due to the good rains received.

Bank Windhoek announced its support towards the Bank Windhoek Namibian Amateur Open Golf Tournament, which will be held at the Windhoek Golf & Country Club on 14 and 15 May 2011. It is the 24th consecutive year that Bank Windhoek is sponsoring the Namibian Amateur Open Golf Tournament.

Since 1935 this tournament has been a major event on the Namibian golfing calendar. Each year the tournament attracts the country’s best golfers.

South Africa win African Junior Golf Challenge

South Africa were the overall winners of the Africa Junior Golf Challenge which finished in Windhoek on Wednesday, winning both the team and the individual categories.

South Africa won the Team category with a total of 847 strokes to finish 16 strokes ahead of second placed Namibia on 863, while Zimbabwe came third on 897.

They were followed by Kenya (954), Mauritius (983) and Zambia (993). A total of 10 countries competed in the event.

South Africa took an 8-shot lead in the African Junior Golf Challenge after the third round on Tuesday, and with only one round remaining they are now virtually assured of retaining the title.

After the third round’s play on Tuesday, South Africa carded a total score of 633, while Namibia’s total score was 641. With one round remaining its now highly unlikely that Namibia will reduce that deficit.

Zimbabwe were lying third overall on 676, followed by Kenya (712) and Zambia (738).

South Africa held a narrow lead by three strokes over Namibia after the first round of the Africa Junior Golf Challenge at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

South Africa held the lead with a total of 209, followed closely by Namibia on 212, while Zimbabwe are lying third on 225.

They are followed by Kenya (243), Zambia (252), Botswana (255), Uganda (255), Mauritius (255), Ghana (257) and Swaziland (262).

Each team consists of four players, but only the top three players’ scores come into account for the competition.
