Late Ngcobo goal gives Chiefs victory

A goal by Sthembiso Ngcobo three minutes into injury time gave Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 victory against Eleven Arrows on Saturday evening. Josta Dladla had given Chiefs an early lead in the first half, but Romanus Shilongo equalised shortly after the break.

The match seemed to be heading for a penalty shootout when Chiefs won a corner and Kaizer Motaung junior chipped the ball to the far post where Ngcobo rose unopposed to head the ball into the net.

Brave Warriors match against Israel cancelled

The Brave Warriors match against Israel that had been scheduled for August 11 has been called off due to a problem with the processing of visas in Israel according to Namibia Football Association (NFA) Secretary General Barry Rukoro.

It had earlier been reported in a weekly newspaper that the Brave Warriors would play Israel as part of their preparations for the AFCON qualifier match against Gambia on September 4.

Namibian soccer fans will be in for a treat when Eleven Arrows take on Kaizer Chiefs at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Although the match has been billed as a pre-season international friendly, there will be no love lost on the field of play as both teams are expected to field their strongest sides in preparation for the upcoming season.

At the time of writing, Chiefs had not yet confirmed their lineup but according to Arrows coach, Congo Hindjou, their top players will be coming.

Delta to play Concordia in FNB Classic Clash

Concordia College will face defending champions Delta High School in an FNB Classic Clashes encounter on Saturday at the Concordia College School Grounds.

The action will start at 08h00 with the teams’ Under 15 sides locking horns. This will be followed by the Under 17 teams’ match at 09h30 before the main match at 11h00.

Concordia’s Bradley Ezaks was confident of his team’s chances against Delta.

“We have only lost one match this season, and the team is confident that we will do our home crowd proud this year,” Ezaks said.

The Festival 2010 was an official event of the FIFA World Cup and was organised by FIFA, streetfootballworld, the Organising Committee of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the City of Johannesburg.

Doeseb re-elected as NPL chairman

The Namibia  Premier League members endorsed J J Doeseb as the Namibia Premier League (NPL) chairperson for the next four years at the elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) held over the weekend at the NBL Customer care centre.

Doeseb was elected unopposed after African Stars withdrew their nomination of Sydney Martin just before the election, resulting in Doeseb winning the election by 10 votes to 0.

The AGM was attended by 11 of the NPL members,  including newly promoted PC Blue Boys, while Hotspurs and United Stars were relegated to the first division.

Mixed fortunes for Brave Gladiators in Germany

The Brave Gladiators lost 4-3 to Borussia Bocholt in a friendly match they played as part of their tour to Germany on Sunday.

The three goals for the Gladiators were scored by Merrelle Polster, Emma Naris and Albertha Dawes.

Namibia Football Association (NFA) Women’s Desk’s Jackey Gertze was very pleased with the performance of the Gladiators.

“Borussia Bocholt is a top league team and the Namibian girls really played well with very impressive displays by Sherley Cloete and the Under 16 team star Emma Naris who is only 14 years old and plays for the JS Academy,” Gertze said.

Rudi Louw to join Black Africa

Rudi Louw will not be playing for African Stars when the 2010/2011 season starts in September. He revealed to Namibia Sport that he would be turning out for Black Africa.

Louw said he signed for Black Africa because of his family’s history with the team.

“Its my home team, since my father used to play soccer for them, while my mom played netball for them. I think I owe them something and I want to go back to play for Black Africa and make the people happy,” Louw said.

Brave Warriors squad for international friendly

The Namibia Football Association on Thursday announced a 19-man Brave Warriors training squad in preparation for an international match on the FIFA International Friendly date of August 11. NFA spokesman Dan Kamati told Namibia Sport that the NFA had not finalised an opponent yet, but that they were in negotiations and that an opponent should be announced within the next few days.

“We are still in discussions and cannot reveal anything yet, but we are looking for a worthwhile opponent, which will be revealed soon,” he said.
