Keetmans lose in Windhoek
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/20/2013 - 13:09.Windhoek High School and Windhoek Gymnasium both recorded victories in the second round of the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball League in Windhoek last weekend.
Keetmanshoop Private School (KPS) travelled to Windhoek for the matches but although they put up a good fight, they lost all three their matches.
On June 14 they lost 35-24 against WHS and the following day they lost 75-14 against Windhoek Gymnasium and 30-19 against Windhoek Afrikaans Privaat Skool (WAP).
Windhoek Gymnasium also beat WAP 41-15.
Namibia to play Croatia
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/20/2013 - 08:46.Namibia’s U21 men’s volleyball team will open their account against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday evening at the U21 World Championships in Croatia.
Namibia has been drawn in Pool A along with the hosts Croatia’s first team, Trinidad and Tobago and Norway’s second team.
Namibia’s team of Tin Hlupic and Gerard Fischer will face Trinidad and Tobago in their first match, while they take on Norway and Croatia on Friday, June 21.
Namibia’s women’s team has been drawn in a tough group which includes Australia, Poland 1 and Brazil 2.
NFA investigating Palmgren resignation
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/20/2013 - 08:11.The secretary general of the Namibia Football Association Barry Rukoro said they are busy with an investigation into the sudden resignation of Swedish coach Roger Palmgren.
Palmgren resigned on June 9, barely a month into his contract as Brave Warriors coach after receiving unspecified ‘serious threats’ against him and his family.
Since then, assistant coach Ricardo Mannetti was put in charge for Namibia’s World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria, while he was subsequently appointed as full time coach on June 18.
Bafana begin Cosafa Cup preparations
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/19/2013 - 16:03.South Africa coach Gordon Igesund says fielding a strong team at the COSAFA Cup Zambia 20134 is his top priority in the coming weeks.
Igesund says he will be putting together the best possible selection from the country’s Premier Soccer League and now that the country’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification duties are complete for the moment, will begin engaging with clubs this week to assemble a winning side.
"In the next couple of days I'm going to identify a few players that I need from each [PSL] team," Igesund told reporters.
Cloete, Areseb called up
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/19/2013 - 15:44.The Namibia Premier League player of the season Riaan Cloete of African Stars and Orlando Pirates midfielder Mervin Areseb have been called up to the Brave Warriors squad in preparation for the Cosafa Cup competition that takes place in Zambia next month.
The diminutive Stars midfielder had a great season, helping them win two trophies, and was a popular choice for Player of the Season at the NPL awards ceremony on June 8.
