Freyer stuns Kohne

Martin Freyer won the fourth race of the Rock & Rut XC series held in Windhoek last Saturday.

The 17-year-old rider from the Kia team completed the six rounds on the mostly flat, but technically challenging course near the Waldorf School in a time of 1:29:23 hours.

Soon after the start Freyer took the lead and increased the speed despite the windy conditions. The only one who managed to follow was Heinrich Köhne and the duo broke away from the rest of the field before the end of the first lap.

Old Boys thrash Wanderers

Windhoek Old Boys Sport Club got off to a great start as they thrashed Wanderers 9-1 in the opening match of the Field Hockey Men’s Premier League on Saturday.

Wanderers managed to keep them at bay for the first 10 minutes but from then on it was one way traffic.

Trevor Cormack opened the scoring on 10m, while Ettienne de Villiers made it 2-0.

Two goals in quick succession by Siabong Martins put them 4-0 up and further goals by Wiehan Strydom and Bucko Bartlett gave them a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Ekandjo, Haikali in war of words

Tim Ekandjo of MTC and Black Africa owner Ranga Haikali have got involved in a war of words regarding branding of soccer teams clothing at Namibia Premier League matches.

Black Africa is sponsored by FNB Namibia and bears their logo on the front of their soccer shirts and not that of the league’s sponsor, MTC.

Speaking at the NPL Awards ceremony on Friday night, Ekandjo said that Black Africa was not sticking to the rules and accused it of showing disrespect to MTC.

Palmgren resigns after serious threats

The President of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) John Muinjo announced the resignation of the Brave Warriors’ head coach Roger Palmgren on Sunday evening.

According to the NFA, Palmgren tendered his resignation with immediate effect this weekend due to 'serious threats' directed towards him and his family, as stated in his resignation letter.

Big wins for Falcons, Rehoboth and United

Reho Falcon, Rehoboth and United all recorded big victories in Round Five of the Namibian Rugby Premier League on Saturday.

In Swakopmund, United got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they thrashed Dolphins 64-7.

They led 24-0 at halftime, but stepped up the tempo in the second half to eventually run in 10 tries, with lock Winmar Rust adding 14 points with the boot.
