Vermeulen disappointed by Welwitschias performance
Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 07:04.Namibian rugby coach Danie Vermeulen was very upset about the performance of the Welwitschias on Saturday, when they lost 92-27 against South Afria U20, saying it was a disgrace.
“It was pathetic. This was not what we planned or prepared and what we expected on the field, and to be honest, its a disgrace for the jersey,” he said.
“The team will definitely be a lot stronger when we go to Dakar in Senegal, but we expect more pride on the defence because that is character and attitude and today the players didnt show any of that on the defence,” he added.
Stars and Gunners to contest Bidvest Namibia Cup final
Submitted by editor on Sat, 05/11/2013 - 23:43.African Stars will meet Mighty Gunners in the final of the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup after they won their semi-finals clashes against Rundu-based sides Rundu chiefs and United Stars at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Action started off at 16h00 as Mighty Gunners took on United Stars and it was Gunners striker Harold Ochurub who scored in the first half to give his side a dream start and a 1-0 halftime lead.
SA U20 beat Welwitschias 92-27
Submitted by editor on Sat, 05/11/2013 - 17:25.The Welwitchias crashed to a 92-27 defeat against South Africa U20 in Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon.
The SA side was just too fast and slick as they ran in 14 tries after building up a 40-6 lead at halftime.
Namibia made a bit of a comeback in the second half but by then the result was beyond doubt, as the South Africans finished with a canter.
The South Africans played with high intensity and pace and breached the Welwitchias’ defence with ease.
Ochurub moves five goals clear
Submitted by editor on Sat, 05/11/2013 - 00:09.Mighty Gunners striker Harold Ochurub has taken a clear lead in the NPL Top Goalscorer competition and seems a near certainty to finish as the top goalscorer of the 2012/13 season.
With only two rounds of matches remaining, Ochurub leads the goal scorers chart with 13 goals from 20 matches.
He is five goals clear of Ramblers striker Heinrich Kazerua and African Stars midfielder Bradley Wermann who share second place with 8 goals each.
Namibia second at Cossasa Champs
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/10/2013 - 11:26.Namibia finished second overall at the COSSASA (Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa) Championships that recently took place in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Namibia won a total of 19 gold medals - the same as the overall winners, Zimbabwe, who won more silver and bronze medals.
Zimbabwe won 20 silver and 22 bronze medals, while Namibia won 11 silver and 8 bronze medals.
Zambia came third with 6 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals; Botswana came fourth with 3 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals; and Lesotho came fifth with 3 gold and 1 bronze medals.
