Windhoek United take over at the top

Windhoek United took over at the top of the Southern Stream First Division log after beating former log leaders Blue Boys 3-1 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday.

Windhoek United dominated possession from the start and took the lead midway through the first half when Blue Boys goalie Abiud Karuuko failed to hold onto a Lucky Uirab shot and midfielder Nelson Hochobeb pounced to put the loose ball into the net.

Just before halftime Echud Pauleno made it 2-0 with a great shot from the edge of the box.

De Lange wins Klein Aus MB Challenge

Tristan de Lange destroyed the field to win the Klein Aus Vista Mountain Bike Challenge outside Aus on Friday.

The 15-year-old De Lange completed the two-day 132km marathon in a total time of six hours 12 minutes 33 seconds, to finish more than five minutes ahead of junior Martin Freyer, who came second in 6:18:08.

Another junior cyclist Herbert Peters followed more than 30 minutes behind De Lange to come third overall in 6:45:55, while Pieter Swiegers was the first Master home, coming fourth overall in 7:09:08.

Zambia to play Namibia

Zambia’s national soccer team, comprising of players based in the country, will play Namibia in an international friendly match on May 24, as part of the teams’ preparations for two tournaments.

Both countries will be preparing for the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup and the Chan tournaments in July.


The Football Association of Zambia (Faz) has clinched the friendly to be played in Windhoek on May 24.


Faz spokesperson Erick Mwanza told supersport.com that they have already agreed on the date with Namibia.

Khomas champions of Skorpion Zinc U17 Cup

Khomas region midfielder Dino Roman Engelbrecht scored the winning goal in extra time for a 2-1 victory over Erongo in the final of the 2013 Skorpion Zinc Cup at the Keetmanshoop Stadium.

The two sides had a flawless record on their way to the final, finishing top of their respective groups and being equally destructive in the semifinals to set up a tantalizing final match in front to the expectant crowd in the stands.

The inaugural Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup underway at the Keetmanshoop Stadium will be contested between Khomas and Erongo following their semifinal success on Saturday afternoon.

Striker Jandjamuje Maharero scored a brace to help Khomas beat Oshikoto 4-0 to reach the final after Hatani Geingob opened the scoring for Khomas for them to lead 1-0 at halftime.
