Windhoek United, Blue Boys open gap
Submitted by editor on Thu, 05/16/2013 - 07:31.Windhoek United and Blue Boys remain the pace setters in the Southern Stream First Division, having opened up a sizable gap on the rest of the field, following last weekend’s Round 17 matches.
Windhoek United beat Unam 1-0 on May 11 after a first half penalty by Thomas Nakale, while they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bee Bob Brothers in Mariental the next day.
They remain at the top of the log on 36 points from 17 matches - one point ahead of Blue Boys, who also collected four points over the weekend.
Namibia off to winning start
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/15/2013 - 20:56.Namibia’s men’s tennis team got off to a winning start in the Davis Cup BNP Paribas Africa Zone Group III competition in Cairo after beating Rwanda 3-0 on Wednesday.
Namibia’s singles players Henco Serdyn and Tuki Jacobs had comfortable victories as they both won their matches in straight sets.
Serdyn beat Dieu Donne Habiyambere 6-3, 6-3, while Jacobs beat Jean Claude Gasigwa 6-1, 6-3.
Jacobs and Serdyn were pushed all the way before winning their doubles match against Gasigwa and Habiyambere, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Fistball moves indoors at Swakop
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/15/2013 - 15:42.The Namibian Fistball season will continue in Swakopmund on Saturday when the SFC Sport Club will host the Coastal Indoor Classic.
The tournament is Namibia’s only Indoor Fistball tournament and teams from Cohen FC, DTS, Atlantis (Walvis Bay) and SKW will be in action.
In addition U18 national coach Andreas Minz will field two teams consisting of players of the U18 national team squad.
Junior World Rugby Trophy venues
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/15/2013 - 10:30.The International Rugby Board has confirmed the four venues that will host matches at the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2013, which will take place in Temuco, Chile, from May 28 to June 9.
Hosts Chile, Canada, Japan, Italy, Namibia, Portugal, Tonga and Uruguay will contest the sixth edition of this prestigious Under 20 tournament as it returns to the country which hosted the inaugural tournament back in 2008.
The countdown begins
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/15/2013 - 07:18.The countdown to the biggest soccer match of the year has begun with both Black Africa and African Stars in confident mood of winning Saturday’s derby.
At a press conference organised by Black Africa on Tuesday, African Stars coach Ali Akan and Black Africa assistant coach Eric Quest addressed the media, saying they were both confident of victory.
Quest said they had a lot of respect for African Stars but were determined to win Saturday’s match.
