Vermeulen disappointed by Welwitschias performance

Munee Tjiueza

Namibian rugby coach Danie Vermeulen was very upset about the performance of the Welwitschias on Saturday, when they lost 92-27 against South Afria U20, saying it was a disgrace.

“It was pathetic. This was not what we planned or prepared and what we expected on the field, and to be honest, its a disgrace for the jersey,” he said.

“The team will definitely be a lot stronger when we go to Dakar in Senegal, but we expect more pride on the defence because that is character and attitude and today the players didnt show any of that on the defence,” he added.

Stars and Gunners to contest Bidvest Namibia Cup final

Harold Ochurub

African Stars will meet Mighty Gunners in the final of the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup after they won their semi-finals clashes against Rundu-based sides Rundu chiefs and United Stars at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.

Action started off at 16h00 as Mighty Gunners took on United Stars and it was Gunners striker Harold Ochurub who scored in the first half to give his side a dream start and a 1-0 halftime lead.

SA U20 beat Welwitschias 92-27

Justin Nel

The Welwitchias crashed to a 92-27 defeat against South Africa U20 in Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon.

The SA side was just too fast and slick as they ran in 14 tries after building up a 40-6 lead at halftime.

Namibia made a bit of a comeback in the second half but by then the result was beyond doubt, as the South Africans finished with a canter.

The South Africans played with high intensity and pace and breached the Welwitchias’ defence with ease.

Ochurub moves five goals clear

Harold Ochurub

Mighty Gunners striker Harold Ochurub has taken a clear lead in the NPL Top Goalscorer competition and seems a near certainty to finish as the top goalscorer of the 2012/13 season.

With only two rounds of matches remaining, Ochurub leads the goal scorers chart with 13 goals from 20 matches.

He is five goals clear of Ramblers striker Heinrich Kazerua and African Stars midfielder Bradley Wermann who share second place with 8 goals each.
