Groups hotly contested at Skorpion Zinc Cup

Already eliminated Omaheke region will have a say in who tops Group A in the U17 Skorpion Zinc Cup as they play Khomas on Saturday.

A victory for either Oshana or Hardap can mean a semifinal place from Group B, while Caprivi and Oshikoto will fight it out to join Erongo in the semifinals from Group C.

After Day Two action in which 33 goals were scored, in Group A Otjozondjupa amassed six points from three matches, the same that Khomas got from two matches.

Tigers stun Black Africa

Black Africa’s title credentials took a big knock as Tigers pulled off a stunning 4-1 victory in their Premiership match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night.

Two goals apiece by Panduleni Nekundi and Benson Shilongo before a late penalty by Willy Stephanus gave Tigers a comprehensive win, that sees them moving up to third on the log.

BA remain on top but African Stars can take over at the top if they draw or beat Eleven Arrows on Saturday.

Welwitschias face tough task

The Welwitchias face a tough task when they take on a strong South African Students at the National Rugby Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The students are captained by Western Province flanker Helmut Lehmann and includes several players who have played at Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup level.

The manager of the SA Students team, Jimmy Potgieter, said they had some good players in their team.

National U/18 soccer team visits Westfalia

Namibia’s national Under 18 soccer team leaves for Germany on Sunday for their annual Westfalia two-week training camp.

The team, which will be coached by renowned youth football coach Turipamue Upi, includes the 2013 Namibian Newspaper Cup Player of the Tournament Ngumatjiua Hindjou in its ranks.

The team will undergo a two week training camp on the invitation of the Westfalia Football Association as part of the bilateral agreement that exists between Westphalia and Namibia’s Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport & Culture.

31 goals scored at Skorpion Zinc U17 Cup

The inaugural Skorpion Zinc Cup got underway on Thursday morning at the Keetmanshoop Stadium with Otjozondjupa region recording the biggest victory of the tournament with a 9-0 thrashing of Omaheke, while a total of 31 goals were scored on Day One.

The program got underway at 09h00 as Otjozondjupa Region played against Khomas, with the latter winning the Group A match 1-0.

Omusati and Oshana then got Group B action underway in the second encounter and it was Omsuati who confidently won 3-1 against their nemesis Oshana Region.
