Civics fortunate to beat Stars
Submitted by editor on Sun, 04/15/2007 - 16:55.A great freekick by Rudi Louw in injury time gave Civics a 1-0 victory against African Stars at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match seemed to be heading to a goalless draw when Civics were awarded a freekick about 30m out and Louw stepped to send a cracking shot flying into the right hand corner.
Civics move three points clear
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/14/2007 - 21:47.Civics beat Cymot SKW at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium on Saturday afternoon to move three points clear at the top of the MTC Namibia Premier League log.
Their closest rivals Ramblers lost 2-1 against Eleven Arrows in Walvis Bay, to move down to third position on 32 points from 18 matches. Civics lead the log with 36 points from 16 matches.
Civics beat SKW 3-0
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/14/2007 - 21:14.Civics moved a step closer to retaining the MTC Namibia Premier League title with an emphatic 3-0 victory against Cymot SKW on Saturday.
Civics created numerous scoring chances in the first half but could not find the target. Striker Geoffrey Roman came close, shooting wide after a great throughball by Rudi Louw, while he had another shot cleared for a corner. Louw also chipped narrowly over the goals after beating the defence.
Great sprint by Vries at Fredericks Invitational
Submitted by editor on Sat, 04/14/2007 - 21:06.Former Namibian Sherwin Vries won the menâ??s 100m in a fast time of 10,32 seconds at the Coca Cola Frank Fredericks Invitational Meeting on Friday night.
Vries, who now runs for South Africa, recently won the double at the South African Athletics Championships in Durban in the relatively slow times of 10,56 seconds for the 100m and 20,77 seconds for the 200m.
