Junior rugby players receive royal send off

The Namibian Under 20 rugby team was given a worthy farewell on Wednesday evening before it leaves for Chile later this month to compete in the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy competition for the first time in four years.
Zimbabwe had represented Africa for the past three years, but Namibia reclaimed their position as Africa’s best country after South Africa when they beat Zimbabwe in the African qualifying final last year to book their ticket to Chile.
The president of the Namibia Rugby Union, Bradley Basson called on the players to give their best for their country.
Volleyball league moves to Windhoek

The Bank Windhoek National Volleyball Ladies League will fully kick off the 2013 season on Saturday, 18 May at the DTS Hall in Windhoek.
The first game of the year was played in Grootfontein on 27 April 2013, and saw EWVC coming out victorious against DTS, 3:1.
Four games will be played in the Ladies League, with last year’s winners, NDF ladies considered the top favourite in the league.
The ladies of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and Khomas Nampol VC (KNVC) will play against Revivals VC and Sport Club Windhoek (SKW) respectively.

The biggest soccer match of the year takes place on Saturday when Black Africa and African Stars lock horns at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Not only will the match in all likelihood determine the outcome of the 2012/13 Namibia Premier League title, but it will also lay down a marker in the struggle for Namibian soccer supremacy.
In recent years Black Africa and African Stars have emerged as the powerhouses of Namibian football, with Stars winning the title for two consecutive seasons from 2008 to 2010 and Black Africa winning twice in a row from 2010 to 2012.
Windhoek United, Blue Boys open gap

Windhoek United and Blue Boys remain the pace setters in the Southern Stream First Division, having opened up a sizable gap on the rest of the field, following last weekend’s Round 17 matches.
Windhoek United beat Unam 1-0 on May 11 after a first half penalty by Thomas Nakale, while they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bee Bob Brothers in Mariental the next day.
They remain at the top of the log on 36 points from 17 matches - one point ahead of Blue Boys, who also collected four points over the weekend.
Namibia off to winning start

Namibia’s men’s tennis team got off to a winning start in the Davis Cup BNP Paribas Africa Zone Group III competition in Cairo after beating Rwanda 3-0 on Wednesday.
Namibia’s singles players Henco Serdyn and Tuki Jacobs had comfortable victories as they both won their matches in straight sets.
Serdyn beat Dieu Donne Habiyambere 6-3, 6-3, while Jacobs beat Jean Claude Gasigwa 6-1, 6-3.
Jacobs and Serdyn were pushed all the way before winning their doubles match against Gasigwa and Habiyambere, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
