Only 12 out of 33 teachers managed to pass a Level One volleyball coaches course in Windhoek last week. The Namibian Volleyball Federation conducted the course for teachers from all 13 regions of Namibia, from 18 to 22 May 2009 in Windhoek at Augustineum Secondary School. The course was conducted by two NVF instructors, namely Joel Matheus as course director and Edward Tomas as assistant.
A total of 33 participants took part in the five-day course under the National Coaches Certification Program that caters for coaches courses from Level I to III. The target groups of Level I and II courses are school teachers, future coaches of young players and also for facilitators and promoters of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball development in their regions.
Theoretical tutoring and practical coaching skills in the field of volleyball are the central education objectives of the NCCP.
The emphasis of this program was based on teaching the basics of volleyball to children and young people and to motivate and develop them to an advanced level.
Participants who took part in this course had the possibility to:
- be introduced to the fundamental ideas and concepts of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball
- refresh and deepen their knowledge, abilities and skills
- widen their experience in the field of volleyball
- receive NVF recognition as qualified coaches
Participants were examined at the end of the course and only 12 participants managed to pass the theory and practical exam, meaning that they are now qualified as NVF Level One coaches.
