Cymot SKW beat Oshakati City 1-0 in a hard fought match at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Friday night to go three points clear at the top of the log.
In a hard fought match, SKW dominated the first half with Sledge Gowaseb having total control in the midfield.
In the 21st minute SKW captain Marko van Wyk took a cracking shot which Oshakati keeper Melksidek Shiku managed to parry away, but SKW striker Jacky Stephanus coolly sunk the rebound into the net.
SKW continued to dominate as Stephanus and Tatenda Chingarath both came close to scoring in the first half, while Van Wyk missed a sitter just before the break.
January man of the match
Oshakati City returned as a different team in the second half and took the game to SKW.
They launched attack after attack, but could not beat SKW keeper Harry January whoi gave an inspired performance. January pulled off some great saves, while the rest of the SKW team played their hearts out to take the three points home to the capital.
Besides January, who was the man of the match, Gowaseb, Ralph Ellinger, Silver Zemburuka and Warren Neidel all played well for SKW.
SKW assistant coach Rolf Beiter paid tribute to Oshakati for being good hosts.
“In front of about 500 spectators the game was hard but very fair, while the City boys were a good host to the visiting 'Imawida Cymot boys,” he said.
BA Tigers replay
The result puts SKW three points clear at the top of the log, but Orlando Pirates can join them on 15 points if they beat bottom club Mighty Gunners at the Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
That match starts at 17h00 and will be followed by the replay between Black Africa and Tigers at 19h00. The match was cancelled on Friday night when a power failure plunged Khomasdal into darkness, but Brave Warriors’ manager Tim Isaacs confirmed that the match will be replayed on Saturday evening.
