Namibia beat Madagascar 55-17

Namibia beat Madagascar 55-17 in a Confederation of African Rugby Cup match at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on October 1, after leading 31-0 at halftime.
Namibia?s heavier pack dominated the forward exchanges and with their speedy backline attacking from the outset, they soon stamped their authority on the match. Flyhalf Jacky Bock had a great debut, sending his backline away at speed while collecting 20 points through a try, a penalty and six conversions.
Left wing Melrick Africa opened the scoring with a try converted by Bock in the 10th minute, while Bock added a penalty five minutes later. Madagascar defended well and kept Namibia at bay until the 30th minute when centre Deon Mouton broke the line to crash over for a try converted by Bock.
Another debutant flanker Johann Wohler burst over from a lineout four minutes later, with Bock adding the conversion, while Bock himself added a try and a conversion in the 39th minute after fullback Roger Thompson initiated a counter-attack.
Prop forward Heiki Amakali burst over from a maul four minutes into the second half, with Bock adding the conversion to put Namibia 38-0 ahead.
When Namibian eighthman Duan Spannenberg burst over for a try in the 56th minute, Namibia stretched their lead to 43-0, and although Bock missed his first conversion, a big score was looming.
Madagascar, however, refused to lie down and staged a fine comeback. Replacement prop Jean Andre Rasedimah went over for a try in the 62nd minute, converted by centre Jose Rakoto, and three minutes later Rakoto added a drop goal.
Namibia stretched their lead with a try by replacement wing Desmond Snyders, but Madagascar immediately came back with a try by replacement hooker Herman Ibrahim, converted by Rakoto.
Namibia however had the final say when right wing Heini Bock broke through the defence to score under the posts, with his brother Jacky adding the conversion to make the final score 55-17.
It was a fine victory for a youthful Namibian team, which showed at least five new caps. Players like fullback Roger Thompson, flyhalf Heini Bock, flanker Johann Wohler and eighthman Duane Spannengberg all put in fine performances, with Spannenberg winning the player of the match award.
Madagascar however also put in a fine performance, especially in the second half, when they impressed with their speedy and tricky backline. They have clearly improved since 2003 when Namibia beat them 112-0 in their first Confederation of African Rugby Cup match at the same venue.
