Namibian long distance legend Luketz Swartbooi won the first of the three half marathons comprising the Old Mutual Victory Races series in Oshakati on August 13.
Swartbooi finished in a time of 01:03:48 and was closely followed home by Willem Rooi who finished in 01:06:48. Tomas David came third in 01:07:26.
In the women?s senior category, Hilaria Johannes dominated her competitors and finished well clear of the field in a time of 01:16:36. Helena Iipinge finished a full five minutes behind Johannes with a time of 01:21:11. Racher Akukuthela came third in 01:21:20.
Although Swartbooi finished well outside his personal best time, the 39 year-old showed that he was still a force to be reckoned with in local marathon circles.
Fifty athletes took part in the race over 21kms while 300 athletes finished the 5km race.
