Big turnout at Volleyball for All tourney

Namibiaâ??s business community turned out in full force for the annual Tafel DTS Volleyball for All tournament which took place at the DTS field on Saturday.

A total of 180 teams, consisting of 156 mixed teams and 24 menâ??s teams registered for the event, which saw a total of 958 matches played on 15 different courts.

The standard of play was exceptionally high and the menâ??s final was a nail-biting affair between Panasonic Youngstars and Nasria Riot. Both teams fought passionately till the end before Panasonic Younstars finally won the match 31-30.
The bronze medallists were G-Tech, while Otb Sport came fourth.

The Mixed tournament was just as keenly contested, with the final between Nets and Sharp Strikas going down to the wire.
The final was a replica of last yearâ??s dramatic final and once again had to be decided on a sudden death point.

Last year Nets beat Pocorn 31-30 and this time Nets once again claimed the title when they beat Sharp Strikas 32-31 after extra time.
GT Challengers won the bronze medal while Funununu came fourth.

In keeping with the social character of the tournament, several fun prizes were awarded.
The Best dressed team award was won by Bootmen, who won a Superspar delicacy food hamper. This prize has been sponsored for the past 25 years, since the inaugural Volleyball for All in 1983.

DTS Alte Herren won the Sportiest Team award, winning Liquifruit coolbags, while while Funununu won the Most Complicated Name award.
Panasonic Old Crocks won the award for the team that travelled the furthest, while Panasonic Youngstars won the Most Passionate team award.

For the first time Mini Volleyball was accommodated and was played on the beach courts, with lower nets and smaller courts. Two coaches trained the kids throughout the day and according to the coaches the level of play increased considerably during the day.

Ons Lanies won the Under 15 category, followed by The Killa Babies, while Parkies 4 won the U13 category, followed by Wild Cats and Parkies I.
Bull Chicks won the Best dressed team category, while Mini Popcorns won the prize for the best team spirit.

It was a lovely sunny day, with occasional gusty windstorms, which could not break the spirit and fun of the participants and spectators. The day was ended with a drumming session, the prize giving ceremony and a spectacular fire show, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the tournament.
