Swimmers off to Mauritius

A team of 17 swimmers will represent Namibia at the African Junior Championships in Mauritius from August 18 to 21.
The swimmers that met stringent qualifying standards set by the Namibia Amateur Swimming Union (NASU) and were selected to the team are as follows:
Girls: Tuna Brock, Katja Laborn, Tanya Lumley, Monique Marais, Marike Meyer, Christine Minders, Ilka Preschel, Nadja Sternhagel and Corinna Wahl.
Boys: Quinton Delie, Joachim Gühring, Abraham Louw, Leon Louw, Tristan McDonald, Marius Roesener, Maximilian Siedentopf and Patrick Wheal.
They will be accompanied by Bettina Steffen (team manager) and Larry Laursen (coach).
Fifteen countries have confirmed their participation being, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Mozambique, Mauritius, Madagascar, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland and Zambia.
Namibia?s stiffest competition is likely to come from South Africa, which is renowned for producing some of the finest swimmers on the continent. However, the Namibian team is determined to make its presence felt at the competition as Namibia has always done well in this aquatic sport.
The tour was made possible for the swimmers thanks to a generous financial contribution from the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) as well as sponsorships received from Pupkewitz, Auas Delta, Sinclair Services and Rex-Quip.
