Rookies and Unam Hoppers won the men and women?s Premier League titles respectively at the first Cash Converters Seven-a-side Hockey Tournament that took place at the Doc Jubber fields in Windhoek on August 6.
The event saw fifteen teams competing for top honors, while floating trophies and cash prizes motivated the players to do well.
High levels of skill by top senior men and women national players were on display. Players as young as eleven years of age and as old as 35 competed in the event. Although clubs like Windhoek Old Boys Sports Club, Wanderers and Civics didn?t enter teams in the tournament, some of their players joined the likes of Unam, Ramblers and the senior women?s national squad to compete in this historic event.
Rehoboth was the only team from outside of Windhoek to part take in the event. Close to 150 players played in the five-hour event that saw Unam Hoppers and Rookies winning the top prizes.
The event also helped to prepare the top senior men and women players for national trials on August 14, to prepare Namibia?s national teams for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, scheduled for October 1 ? 10 in Pretoria, South Africa.
