The annual Chevron 10km Road Race was presented by Windhoek Harriers on
Saturday, 26 January and contested by 90 athletes competing in walking and running events.
In the senior menâ??s running category, Frans Hosea proved to be too strong for his elite opponents and won the event in 31 min 24 sec followed closely by Johannes Naitembu (31 min 37 sec) and Tomas David (32 min 29 sec).
Helaria Johannes cruised to victory in the womenâ??s event in 35 min 33 sec with Beata Naigambo (36 min 33 sec) taking up second position. Helena Iipinge managed a third
Place in 39 min 12 sec.
Laurensia Elago took the walking honours for women in 69 min 04 sec, while Susan Gordon followed her in 70 min 55 sec. Therese van der Colff was placed third (73 min 30 sec). W Amesho won the menâ??s walking category in a time of 60 min 47 sec to beat Tobiasa Abisai (61 min 12 sec) and Andreas Angula (62 min 25 sec).
Other results of note include Daniel Shikudule and Max Schafer being the fastest in the 40-49 years category, while Simone Link and Lezette Thiart were the leading women in this age group.
Sieglinde Gontes, Marelise Calitz, Pierewiet Wilders and Danny Muukua were the champions in the 35-39 years group.
Grand Masters (60+) Gerry Lynch and Sakkie von Plato both ran sub-60 minutes. Walker Hennie Fourie (50-69) managed a personal best of 71 minutes while Margrit
Horn (60+) achieved 74 minutes.
