Top seeds Jurgens Strydom of Namibia and Rupesh Roy of Indonesia comfortably reached the boys singles semifinals of the ITF South & Central African Junior Tennis Tournament in Windhoek on August 3.
Strydom?s powerful serve and groundstrokes were evident as he wore down South Africa?s Wesley Baptiste to win the match 6-4, 6-1.
Roy had a bit of a tougher time against the eighth seeded Gregory Anderson of South Africa. Anderson matched Roy stroke for stroke in the first set before Roy took the tiebreaker 7-6.
Roy?s greater consistency however told as he easily won the second set 6-0 to take the match.
Roy will now meet sixth seeded Ruan Roelofse of South Africa in the semifinals. Roelofse caused a slight upset after beating third seeded Bokang Setshogo of Botswana 6-1, 6-4.
Strydom will meet the ninth seeded Tucker Voster of South Africa in the semifinals, after Voster beat fourth seeded Brad Williams of South Africa 6-4, 6-3.
In the girls? quarterfinals, fifth seeded Marne Roos of South Africa beat compatriot Jane Pringle 6-1, 6-2, while third seeded Engela Oliver of South Africa beat eighth seeded Mariska Kuschke of Namibia 6-1, 6-1.
Fourth seeded Justine Sutherland of South Africa beat sixth seeded Elrien de Villiers of Namibia 6-3, 6-0 and second seeded Chane Hines of South Africa beat seventh seeded Laone Botshoma of Botswana 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.
The semifinal draw will see Roos playing Oliver and Sutherland playing Hines.
Strydom, De Wit upset top seeds
In the boys? doubles, Namibia?s Jurgens Strydom and Johan de Wit caused an upset after beating top seeds Brad Williams and Ruan Roelofse of South Africa 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. They will now meet South Africa?s Wesley Baptiste and Tucker Voster who beat Zimbabwe?s Simbarashe Happy and Terence Mazungaire 6-3, 6-2.
The second seeds, Lofo Ramiaramanana of Madagascar and Bokang Setshogo of Botswana beat Takura Happy and Takanyi Garaganga of Zimbabwe 6-3, 6-4. They will meet South Africa?s Gregory Anderson and Mpilo Migogo, who beat Gewladiyos Mesfin of Ethiopia and Mathieu Fayolle of Mauritius 6-3, 6-1.
In the girls? doubles, top seeds Suzelle Davin and Elrien de Villiers of Namibia beat Laone Botshoma of Botswana and Elizabeth Morake of South Africa 6-2, 7-6. They will now meet third seeded Jane Pringle and Engela Oliver of South Africa, who beat Bronwyn Williams and Christine Masite of South Africa 6-3, 6-4.
The second seeds, Chane Hinesand Marne Roos of South Africa beat Rudo Mahachi and Tanya Gombera of Zimbabwe 6-0, 6-0. They will now meet the fourth seeds, Justine Sutherland and Abigail Oliver of South Africa, who beat Namibia?s Mariska Kuschke and Maryke Mouton 6-1, 6-2.
