Namibia?s junior athletes struggled on the opening day of the World Youth Athletic Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco on July 13.
Richard Wolman was Namibia?s best performer on the opening day of the Youth Championships. He qualified for the second round of the 100m heats after coming second in his first round heat. His heat was won by Kyle Manu of New Zealand in 10,82 seconds, while Wolman came second in 10,83 seconds.
According to the IAAF?s offical website, Namibia?s Robert Herridge was disqualified in the boys 400m heats, although it did not stipulate why he was disqualified.
None of Namibia?s girls managed to qualify for the second round. In the girls? 100m first round heats, Globine Muyova came fifth in Heat 3 in a time of 12,52, while Keshia Kalomo came sixth in Heat 11 in a time of 12,36. Both failed to qualify for the second round, although it was a personal best time for Kalomo.
Tjipekapora Herunga was entered for the girls 400m, but her name didn?t appear amongst the starters.
Namibia still has three more athletes at the Youth Championships, whose events will start later in the week. They are high jumper Attie Oberholzer, long jumper Rinus Loots and javelin thrower Johan Venter.
