Cohen Fistball Clubâ??s U18 side beat SKW A U18 recently to win the National Under 18 league title after the final round of club matches.
The Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) had already secured the championship in the national Fistball A and B Leagues before the final round of games on Saturday 15 September 2007. Things were however not yet decided in the U18 league.
Defending champions SKW A U18 and Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) A U18 met in the last game of the day to decide who would take home the coveted trophy. Cohen proved to be too strong and won the game 20:15 and 20:14.
Both teams showed high quality fistball, which was a result of a recent training camp for U18 players in Windhoek by the former German national player Petra Schmitthuysen and Swiss coach Adi Koenig.
The team from SFC in Swakopmund managed to secure the second spot in the National A league. Champions SKW won all their matches on the day and went through the season unbeaten. SKW 3 made it a one-two for the club from Olympia in the National B league. Although Cohen 3 proved to be the team of the day they had to settle for third place. 17-year-old Sabine Schlettwein was awarded the trophy as the best player on the day.
The last event for the year will be the National Cup on November 3, 2007.
With all the menâ??s national players that represented Namibia at the World Cup in August expected to be present, some classy games are guaranteed.
