Namibia completed a brilliant three-set victory over Denmark to qualify for the Winnerâ??s Group at the World Fistball Championships in Niedersachsen, Germany on August 7.
The match, which lasted for more than 90 minutes, was tense, emotional and hectic from the start.
Namibia took charge of the first set from the start and had a set point, leading at 19-18, but a fault followed by two ace serves by Denmark put Denmark 20-19 ahead.
Namibia however defended superbly to draw level and when Denmark had two service faults, Namibia won the first set 22-20.
Great fightback by Namibia
Denmark immediately struck back to easily win the second set 20-13 and when they built up a 5-1 lead in the third set it seemed like they were going to win the match.
But Namibia didnâ??t give up and fought back point by point to draw level at 9-all, before taking the lead. Denmarkâ??s resistance was finally broken and Namibia went on to win the match 20-12.
â??The fantastic team spirit, the self-belief, the fitness and our never-say-die attitude gave Namibia the wining edge,â? national coach Harald Fulle said.
Namibia beat Japan, lose to Germany
Earlier on August 7, Namibia easily beat Japan 2-0, before going down 2-0 against the hosts, Germany.
Germany were in charge from the start and received great support from the more than 1 000 spectators in attendance.
Namibia were never in with a chance, but managed to stretch the match for more than an hour, as Germany had to fight for every point.
Namibia will now travel to Braunschweig to take on Switzerland and Argentina. Switzerland are one of the favourites for the title, along with Germany and defending champions Brazil, but Namibia will be hoping to beat Argentina.
