SKW win Doc Tournament

By Heiko Diehl

SKW managed to pull off the big surprise and win the SAVVA Doc Volleyball that recently took place in Walvis Bay.
The tournament is the oldest and most prestigious annual event on the Namibian Volleyball calendar.
SKW, only promoted to Premier League this year, was underestimated by most teams. With four new signings, two of them National team players, they proved to be the strongest team on the day, losing only one set throughout the whole tournament. They won both group matches, against Elegance Volleyball Club and NDF B 2:0.
In the Quarterfinal they dominated against Eleven Warriors beating them 2:0 and in the Semi-final they beat defending champions, NDF A, 2:0 in fine style to secure a place in the final.

SKW beat Killers in final

In the final SKW lost the only set of the tournament against Killers, but still managed to take victory comfortably, winning 3:1. Six Stars Volleyball Club took the last podium place and the bronze medal.
With this exceptional result early in the season SKW has set its expectations high for the NVF Premier League kicking off in April. Having finished second in the 2006 First Division and a victory in the play-offs, SKW were promoted to Namibia's Premier Volleyball League this year. Now they are out to prove that they are the team to beat this year. With four national team players in their lineup and a good balance of experienced and youthful players, it will be difficult for the other teams to prove them wrong.
The SKW team is as follows:
Setter: Kamwi Sezuni
Utility: Achim Lück
Spiker: Rector Mbeha, Jaime Duarte, Joseph Amakali,
Blocker: Mwita Shikopo, Marcelino da Silver, Bernd Ahrens, Olaf Riedel
Libero: Heiko Diehl
Coach: Marc van Uytvanck
