The fifth DTS Beach Volleyball tournament this year took place last weekend with a record 42 teams participating in the 2012 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series in Windhoek at DTS in cool and windy conditions.

The Youth Ladies category, sponsored by Windhoek Canopy Centre, a category for girls aged between 14 and 18 years saw five teams taking part.

First place after winning all four their matches went to Saskia Henckert and Christiane Schuckmann, with the runners up being Maike Brandt and Mareike Talkenberg while third place went to Bianca Kasch and Julia Krafft.

The 2-a-side social category attracted nine teams. Father and son, Wife and Husband, Sisters in Law and even Allgemeine Zeitung sport editors team were part of this fun-filled category.

After a long day, the final was played between Meike Müller and Klaas Woller and Robby Echelmeyer and Konrad Grosse. Müller and Woller were just too good beating the sport journalists 2-0. Third place went to Erik Fischer and Melissa Kring.

Zimbabwe's national men's team, Nyashadzashe Takawira and Brighton Ngunzi, took part in the men’s category for the second time this year and proved to be the top team to beat.

Achim Lück and Peter Brinkmann had the chance as they managed to reach the final by beating Heiko Diehl and Gero Talkenberg in the semi final, but Takawira and Ngunzi beat Lück and Brinkmann 2-0 in the final to secure their second win from two appearances.

Third place went to the youth team of Tin Hlupic and Gerard Fischer.

The 4-a-side social category attracted 15 teams. The top 8 teams that qualified for the quarter finals were Cats & Dogs, Mean Machine, Stingy Bees, 4 Scoops, Set 4 Life, SLAM, Caracals and NBL.

Defending champions Cats & Dogs struggled to reach the finals after a tight 2-1 victory against Set 4 Life while Stingy Bees had no problems beating NBL 2-0. Once again Cats & Dogs showed their skills in the final where they beat Stingy Bees 2-0 gaining their second title this year. Third place went to NBL.

The Ladies category saw seven Beach Volleyball teams competing. Defending champions and the number one seeded team Wiebke Höritzauer and Brigitte Looser were under
pressure as they were beaten 2-1 in the first round by Teja Lück and Rosi Hennes.

Höritzauer and Looser had to fight their way back through the loser's round and managed to reach the semi finals where they faced the Zimbabwean team of Viola Muchaoona and Christine Manyanya whom they beat 2-0.

In the final Höritzauer and Looser were once again up against Lück and Hennes, who beat the veteran team of Karin Curschmann and Anita Kinder in the semifinals.

After two tight sets, the final had to be decided via a tiebreak and Lück and Hennes
emerged as the victors to win their first ever tournament, driving away with a sports car sponsored by KIA Motors which they can drive until the next tournament.

Peter Brinkmann was voted as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Male Player of the tournament while Teja Lück was chosen as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic
