Top performances at Bank Windhoek Grand Prix

South African hurdler Ter de Villiers, sprinter Wendy Seegers and German javelin thrower Alexander Vieweg were the star performers at the Bank Windhoek Athletics Mini Grand Prix in Windhoek on April 23.
The event was the third and final leg of a Southern Africanm Grand Prix series, which included meets in Gaborone, Botswana and Harare, Zambia, and several top athletes from Botswana and Zimbabwe were also present at the Windhoek meet.
Ter de Villiers, who was born in Windhoek, but now runs for South Africa, won the men?s 400m hurdles in an excellent time of 49,91 seconds ? which was just outside the World Championships qualifying time of 49,20. His compatriot Llewellyn Herbert came second in 50,05, while Namibia?s Horatius Abrahams came third in 54,75.
Seegers won the women?s 100m in an excellent time of 11,66 seconds ? just outside the World Championship qualifying time of 11,30. Sandra Chimwaza of Zimbabwe came second (12,22) and Tatenda Goronga of Zimbabwe third (12,25).
The 19-year-old javelin thrower Alexander Viewig, is one of Germany?s top junior prospects, who won the German Winter Championships in February. He won the javelin event in Windhoek with a distance of 71,94 metres, which was quite a distance outside the World Championship qualifying distance of 81,80m.
Namibia?s Johan Maritz was second (61,20m) and Johan Venter third (50,65m).
