Simon confident of victory

Harry Simon and Rueben Groenewald

Harry Simon vowed to knock Rueben Groenewald out when they meet in a cruiserweight fight at the SKW Hall in Windhoek on Saturday night.

Simon has been training in Windhoek for the past two weeks and said he was fit and raring to go for the fight.

“This fight will be a great test for me because Rueben Groenewald is a former world champion and one of South Africa’s greatest fighters. But I’ve got the speed and the power and I’m more clever than him. I’ll knock him out by the sixth round,” Simon confidently predicted.

Simon was a bit concerned about fighting at the cruiserweight limit for the first time, saying that Groenewald would have a weight advantage.

“I’m actually too light for the cruiserweight limit of 90,6kg. Rueben will have a big weight advantage and I will have to pick up about 3 or 4 more kilos, to make sure that he can’t push me around,” he said.

Simon said he would dedicate the fight to his younger brother “Tosh” Simon who recently passed away.

“I dedicate this fight to my brother Tosh who recently passed away. He was my sister’s son but we grew up together and he was like a brother to me,” he said.

One of the promoters, Theo Mukena said that Groenewald was due to arrive at the Hosea Kutako International Airport at 21h50 on Friday night. He added that another South African boxer, Fikile Nyalungu would also be on the same flight and would also be in action on Saturday. Nyalungu will take on Oranjemund-based Toivo Kamati in a heavyweight fight.

Tickets for the fight can be obtained at the Namibian Boxing Control Office or at Radio Energy.
