Albinus “Danny Boy” Felesianu beat Tinashe Mtodza of Zimbabwe with a knockout in the eighth and final round of their featherweight encounter at the SKW Hall in Windhoek on Friday night.
Felesianu put Mtodza down with a crunching hook to the body and although the Zimbabwean managed to beat the count he immediately went down to a similar blow to the body and was counted out with only one second in the eighth round remaining.
There was never a doubt about the outcome as the aggressive Felesianu dominated from the start, although he was a bit wild at times and made to miss a lot.
Mtodza was a tough customer and managed to keep Felesianu at bay with a strong jab, but Felesianu was just too powerful and his big blows started taking effect as the fight wore on.
He knocked Mtodza down with a right hook in the third round and again in the sixth round, before he finished him off at the end of the eighth round.
Felesianu’s record now stands at 13 wins and 2 losses, while Mtodza’s record stands at 3 wins and 3 defeats.
The Felesianu-Mtodza fight was promoted to the main fight of the evening after another Zimbabwean Martin Tshuma failed to arrive for his welterweight fight against Pohamba Mandume.
It was a setback for the Kinda Promotions event and the sparse crowd of less than 100 people eventually only saw three pro fights and four amateur fights.
In the main supporting bout Gottlieb Ndokosho of Namibia beat Dumezweni Ntuliki of Zimbabwe on a third round knockout in a featherweight fight.
The fight started dramatically as Ndokosho knocked Ntuliki down with his first punch and from then on there was never any doubt to the outcome.
Ndokosho picked up the tempo in the second round and although Ntuliki offered brief resistance, he was no match for Ndokosho, who knocked him down with a right hook after 2 minutes and 9 seconds of the third round.
Ndokosho now has a handy pro record of 10 wins and 3 defeats.
In the only other pro fight of the evening, Chris Ukelo beat George Iyambo on a points decision in a lightweight fight over four rounds.
Ukelo had a big reach advantage, but the shorter Iyambo gave a plucky display and took the fight to Ukelo.
There was not much to choose between the two but in the end two judges scored in Ukelo’s favour 40-38 and 40-36, while a third scored it a 38-38 draw.
Ukelo’s record now stands at 4 wins and 1 loss while it was Iyambo’s third successive defeat.
There were also four amateur fights with the results as follows:
Ebenestus Kaangundue beat Johannes Ndeshitile 2-1 on points in a 69kg welterweight fight.
Ashila Timothy beat Penovanhu on a fourth round technical knockout in a 56kg bantamweight fight.
Cellestinus Kakishi beat Petrus Mungongolo 2-1 on points in a 52kg flyweight fight.
Kevin Lumbinda beat Albert Petrus 3-0 on points in a 60kg lightweight fight.
