Namibiaâ??s most famous soccer supporter Robbie Savage turned 40 years old on Wednesday and Ramblers Football Club organized a special function to honour its number one supporter.
Tributes were paid to Ramblers' biggest fan, Robbie by amongst others, Ramblersâ?? president Manny Coelho, committee members Harald Hecht and Mark Kutzner, Ramblers players and the chairman of the Namibia Premier League Peter van Wyk.
Gifts also poured in for the much loved supporter from members of Namibiaâ??s soccer fraternity while the crowd in attendance were regaled by some hilarious tales of Robbieâ??s travels on the African continent as official supporter of Namibiaâ??s Brave Warriors.
Tributes
Hecht paid tribute to Robbieâ??s unwavering support for Ramblers and regaled the audience with tales of Robbie when he was the official guest of the then Prime Minister Hage Geingob at the 1998 African Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso. On that occasion Robbie accompanied Geingob everywhere, receiving special treatment as a VIP and being transported around in a limousine.
The Brave Warriorsâ?? medic Donata Gawanab told a story of Robbie taking over an Angolan artistâ??s dance routine before a match between Namibia and Angola in Luanda in 2003, saying that he was a much loved member of the soccer fraternity.
Peter van Wyk thanked Robbie for the roll he played as Ramblersâ?? and Namibiaâ??s official supporter, saying that they needed more Robbies.
â??But there will never be another Robbie,â? he added.
Ramblers captain Michael Pienaar said it was a great honour to know Robbie and that the team would make him proud.
â??Thanks for your support. Stay with us till the end of the season and we will make you proud. Iâ??m telling you today that we will win the league and it will be the biggest present that we can give you,â? he said.
Presents
Then it was time for presents, of which there were quite a lot.
Amongt others, he received Ramblers clothing, a vuvizela signed by the Ramblers players, and even a medical plan from NHP Medscheme, one of Ramblersâ?? sponsors.
And then after several Happy Birthday renditions it was time for Robbie to cut the cake.
A clearly overwhelmed Robbie had a tear in his eye, as did several members of the audience, witnessing his special day.
â??I thank the Lord for this day, as well as my mother and father, who are no longer here. I also want to thank Ramblers and all the players,â? he said.
