A late goal by Marco van Wyk gave SKW a 1-0 victory over Friends at the SKW field on Wednesday night.
After an aimless and forgettable first half, SKW picked up the pace in the second. Their strikers however lacked penetration and the match seemed to be heading for a draw when Van Wyk struck in the 81st minute.
Second half substitute Albertus Cloete launched a counterattack down the right wing and centred to an unmarked Van Wyk who tapped the ball into an empty net.
There were only two notable chances in a dull first half which both went SKWâ??s way. In the 30th minute a shot by Rudolph Bester was scrambled away while an Eric Aoseb header flew narrowly over the crossbar six minutes later.
Strikers lack penetration
SKW picked up the pace after the break, but their strikers lacked penetration.
Henry Somseb raced clear down the wing there was no one to connect his inviting cross, while Friendsâ?? goalie Gunduza saved bravely at Aosebâ??s feet in the 14th minute.
A minute later a shot by Somseb rattled against the crossbar while Aosebâ??s shot from the rebound was saved.
The match seemed to be heading for a draw when Cloete finally beat the defence on the counterattack and crossed to Van Wyk who scored from close range.
For SKW, Van Wyk was industrious in midfield, while Ellinger and Mbaeva were solid at the back.
The result sees the two teams exchanging positions, with Friends dropping to the bottom of the log while SKW are one position above them.
