Paulus “The Hitman” Moses will now be fighting for the full WBO lightweight title and not the Interim WBO lightweight title after his opponent Ricky Burns was confirmed as the WBO's new lightweight world champion.
Burns became the full champion after the former WBO champion Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico moved up to the welterweight division.
Moses is scheduled to fight Burns on March 10 in Glasgow.
Moses’ trainer, Nestor Tobias said that the fact that the fight is now a world title fight did not change the way they had been working in the gym.
“The training remains the same, because it is still the same person who we have been preparing to fight all along,” Tobias said.
“The training has been going very well in the gym and we are working very hard to get him in the condition he needs to be for the fight in March,” he continued.
“The fact that its for the championship is even better for Hitman because he will be more motivated to win the fight,” he added.
Burns has a record of 33 wins out of 35 fights. Moses on the other hand has a record of one loss from 27 fights.
Burns, meanwhile, told acadvertiser.co.uk that he was looking forward to facing Moses in the ring.
“We are in the middle of full training so that means sessions two or three times a day now,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to it and going by Paulus’ record, it is going to be a very tough fight,” he added.
“It is great to know that I will be fighting again in Scotland. My first two defences of my super featherweight title we at Braehead so I’m glad this is going to be here as well.”
This will be Burns’ first title defence since he defeated Micheal Katsidis in London in May 2011.
