Griquas close in on victory

Picky Ya France

Namibia were in deep trouble and heading for defeat at the end of the second day of their CSA 3-Day Challenge match against Griqualand West in Kimberley on Friday.

After dismissing Griquas for 349, Namibia crashed to 137 all out in their first innings, while they reached 130/6 in their follow up innings. With a deficit of 82 runs and only four wickets remaining, an innings defeat looks highly likely.

Namibia’s batsmen failed to make an impact in the first innings as they regularly lost wickets. Nicolaas Scholtz was the top scorer with 28 while Gerhard Rudolph added 22 as they crashed to 137 all out.

Werner Coetsee was Griquas’ best bowler, taking 5/28 in 15 overs.

Namibia got off to a better start in their second innings as Gerhard Rudolph and Picky Ya France put on 51 runs for the first wicket before Rudolph was out for 28.

Ya France scored 36 but Craig Williams faced only two balls before he was out LBW for a duck.

Namibia lost the wickets of debutant Kobus Delport (5), top scorer Sarel Burger (48) and Raymond van Schoor (4) in quick succession as they crashed to 130/6 at the close of the second day.
