Namibia finished fourth in the Nations Cup Netball Tournament after they lost 52-47 to Malaysia in the playoff on Sunday.

Despite having narrowly beaten Malaysia 44-42 on Tuesday the Namibian team could not repeat the same feat on Sunday.

Both teams got into the match early on but it was the Malaysians who were the ones that were leading 12-11 at the end of the first quarter. They were leading 25-22 at halftime.

They were still trailing after the end of the third quarter (40-35) and though they pulled back to within one point at a various stages, they just couldn’t push ahead to repeat a victory.

“We were really looking forward to winning this game and finishing third in the tournament but tough luck, we lost,” Namibian captain Jatjinda Kambatuku said at the end of the match.

“We made too many mistakes – dropped balls and missed passes. When we got the ball from them we were rushing to the goal and losing it by rushing things,” Kambatuku said.

“The week has been great though, we have been enjoying Singapore and the games have been good,” she added.

“Last year we came fifth and this year we are fourth so for us it’s a great improvement.”

Fiji finished first, followed by hosts Singapore. Sri Lanka finished fifth while Papua New Guinea ended the tournament on sixth place.
