Namibia third at Women’s AST

Namibia’s women’s bowls team finished third overall at the African States Bowls Tournament which recently took place in Nairobi, Kenya.

Namibia won silver medals in both the trips and pairs competitions and a bronze medal in the fours competition to finish third overall.

South Africa were the overall winners, followed by Zimbabwe and Namibia.

In the Pairs competition Namibia’s team of Charlotte Morland and Miele van der Merwe came second, behind South Africa and just ahead of Botswana on points difference.

In the Trips competition the Namibian team of Diana Viljoen, Sheena du Toit and Lesley Vermeulen came second behind Kenya, while Zimbabwe came third.

In the Fours competition, the Namibian team of Diana Viljoen, Charlotte Morland, Sheena du Toit and Lesley Vermeulen came third, finishing behind the winners South Africa and Zimbabwe who won silver.

In the Singles competition Miele van der Merwe came fourth, finishing behind the winners Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya.

Meanwhile, the Windhoek Country Club will host it’s annual Club Trips tournament over the next few days.

The official opening takes place on Wednesday evening, while the tournament starts at 07h30 on Thursday. Play continues on Friday and Saturday, with the prize giving scheduled to take place at 18h00 on Saturday.
